The problem with building a closed social network is that it sets up an all or nothing premise for users. They might like some of the signature features but they'll leave if there's not enough people to network with. That's a shame and a huge barrier to innovation and new social products.
The #fediverse changes that forever. People can now use the features they like from a mix of apps across a common network of people. This means we can take a whole new approach to how "social" and "media" should work including discovery, user experience and monetization that will be far healthier than anything we've had in the past.

😂 That was odd! When I mentioned @darnell@flipboard.com on my #WordPress blog, it pinged my #Flipboard account on my iPhone even though #ActivityPub is not yet activated (I received a push notification, which later revealed nothing 😆).
If it pings again via #Mastodon, I might do various tests upon other #Fediverse accounts (like #Misskey & #Threads).

Update: Typhoon is outside PAR but still some areas is having severe rain.

Threads is the largest player so far to adopt #ActivityPub, and as @mike says, “The implications are huge.”
Why is Threads doing this? How is the team working with the community? How are they thinking about moderation, monetization and privacy in these early days and going forward?
In the newest episode of @dot_social, Mike digs in with @rklambo, Director of Product Management, and @pcottle, Software Engineer. Check it out in the fediverse on PeerTube or wherever you like to listen to podcasts. More details here:

- Are you the admin on a public Fediverse server which has sign-ups open?
- Would you like your server listed on https://fedi.garden ?
- Is your server compatible with all seven points at https://fedi.garden/about-this-site ?
If so, please message me 🙂

Today, I restarted my monthly donations to @Mastodon through Patreon. I encourage others to do the same! #Mastodon #Fediverse #Donate
We're sad to see that IFTAS Connect has begun the process of shutting down.
We, like many other server admins, often found advice and help from the community there.
We hope that by preserving the 'Connect' news feed with Channel.org tech we can give back to the community.
Thank you for the work by @iftas and everyone involved, including all the admins who shared their thoughts there.
We look forward to seeing what's next for community collaboration on the Fediverse.

Hey you! Would you like to learn how #ActivityPub works?
I have a *single-file* ActivityPub server which can be used to run bots.
It supports quotes, mentions, hashtags, and most features of the modern #Fediverse.
You can play around by uploading one PHP file and one .htaccess file to your website.

In the latest episode of #DotSocial I interview @snarfed.org, a passionate bridge builder with a focus on connecting people across the open web and the #fediverse. His latest work, #BridgyFed, connects #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol resulting in excitement, critique and *lots* of discussion.
Ryan and I talk about the parallel communities on #Mastodon and #Bluesky, their shared desire to create an open social web and the pros and cons of their underlying protocols, #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol. Can or should these be bridged? If so, how? As whole new communities continue to join the fediverse, how should the user experience evolve?
Listen to this excellent discussion on our @PeerTube instance or wherever you get your #podcasts.
