<p>I&#x27;ve sometimes thought about building a service combining <a href="/tags/osm/" rel="tag">#OSM</a> and the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a>, to talk with people in the same region.</p><p>It would be 100% anonymous: a dedicated account, with no link to your existing Fedi identity, and why not <a href="/tags/e2ee/" rel="tag">#E2EE</a> for messages.</p><p>No exact location: posts are attached to the nearest town, so neither the server nor other users see your coordinates.</p><p>Anonymity could be what makes people comfortable enough to talk with people around them. Everyone stays in a safe place.</p>

The main difference is that the submission form allows you to anonymise yourself and have the request circulate through <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mutualaidspace.org/author/comrade/" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>comrade</span></a></span> instead of your own social media account.</p><p>The form is also useful if you do not have a Fediverse profile, or if you simply do not have many followers there. Your request does not depend entirely on the size of your own social network to reach people, because mutualaidspace.org has its own amplification infrastructure.</p><p>mutualaidspace.org does not retain your email address or other contact information. The email address entered into the form is only used to notify you when the post is automatically taken down after one week.</p><p>A Fediverse profile is already a social media profile where you can separate yourself from your IRL identity. But when asking the general public on the worldwide web for solidarity and material support, mutual aid seekers are often among the people in the most vulnerable position online. They may still go out of their way to reveal who they are, their circumstances, and other personal information because asking strangers for support often comes with pressure to prove that the need is real.</p><p>The form does not remove that reality, but it provides a semblance of a barrier between the mutual aid seeker, their own social media profile on the Fediverse, and general netizens. The request can still travel through the Fediverse and the wider web without necessarily making the mutual aid seeker&#x27;s own social media identity the account being circulated alongside it.</p><p>It functions mainly as an amplifier, so please do not use the form as the only place where you put your mutual aid request. <p>Juliette died last night. She was 13.</p><p>In June I posted a photo of her in a yellow unicorn party hat and called it her &quot;second&quot; birthday. A year before that I had spent a weekend doing some kind of CPR on her and writing her heart rate down every 30 minutes, certain she would not see Monday. </p><p>She saw fourteen more months. Furthermore, by allowing the source code of the scam on your site, you could be held liable if you know of the scam but do nothing about it.</p><p>So, please:</p><p>1. Either remove me as an active member (and give me notice so I can cancel my direct debit and have time to migrate my account and projects elsewhere), or</p><p>2. Take down the libellous claims by this anonymous troll who is causing real harm to people facing genocide in Gaza (and who is thus, himself, complicit in genocide).</p><p>So I’m either a scammer and I should not be allowed to be part of the Codeberg organisation or the anonymous Linux-Is-Best is a libellous, genocide-complicit troll and should not be welcome at Codeberg.
