Me neither, but here we are…</p><p>So before we start, let’s recount the whole dystopian raison d’être of these Davosian clowns: to be a EU®opean “alternative to X” that ­– cue the 1984 theme tune – verifies your identity to ensure that only “real people” are on it (real is what your government says it is).</p><p>Now, let’s fast forward to last week, when TikTok set up an account on W Social.</p><p>That’s nice, isn’t it? One surveillance capitalist lending their support to another? Kumbaya and all that. The only problem? (spoiler alert), it wasn’t TikTok. (Shocking, I know.)</p><p>The account, Identity Verified™ by EU X – sorry, W Social, was a spam account and immediately labelled as such by BlueSky moderators. (Don’t you love a “decentralised” system where a post on an EU server, accessed from another EU server, is moderated by our benevolent Big Brother in Trumpland, by the way? I know it just warms the cockles of my heart. So much sovereignty! It would be worse if they were competent, given they’re a closed-source venture-capital-funded startup determined to prove your identity.</p><p>&gt; “Yes we have a business model, it’s not a philanthropy, we are not a B corp, we actually want to make money.” – Anna Zeiter³</p><p>But, what I want to know is this: Why has <span class="h-card"><a href="https://ec.social-network.europa.eu/@EUCommission" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>EUCommission</span></a></span> embraced a proprietary, closed-source, corporate ghost town with 14,300 accounts, 90% of which have not posted even once (in other words, with only 1,259 accounts that have ever posted)⁴ when there is a thriving non-corporate fediverse with millions of active people on it.</p><p>Could it have anything to do with identity verification, surveillance, and control?</p><p>And if so, why can’t they even get that right?</p><p>Looking forward to seeing how long <span class="h-card"><a href="https://ec.social-network.europa.eu/@EUCommission" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>EUCommission</span></a></span> can drag the corpse of W Social around before people realise it’s dead.</p><p>Oh, and how does this make the whole “European alternatives” thing look? <p>I wanna move my PeerTube Channels over from MakerTube what should I do?<br><br>I have a few PeerTube channels on <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@MakerTube" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>MakerTube</span></a></span><br><br>The goal was always it to be a temporary home for my YouTube content. The time has come to help MakerTube by moving my content away from there system&#x27;s freeing up storage space and not costing them a monthly price for hosting.<br><br>I&#x27;ve got a few options;<br>Option 1 -- I upload all channels content to this account. Making it a mix of gaming, vlogging and general posts I&#x27;ve done across video content.<br><br>Option 2 -- I create new accounts on solent.social where I upload these bits of content allowing me to boost it with my main account as a &#x27;go check it out&#x27; system. (I&#x27;m questioning how I&#x27;d name them as I currently run two channels of &quot;SamXavia&quot; for vlogging / motorvlogging content and &quot;SamXaviaGaming&quot; for gaming content, but I could rather simplify this name or keep it the same as my main on here is Sam)<br><br>Option 3 -- I take more time and start up my own PeerTube instance to make sure that the content gets put onto PeerTube along with the rest of the Fediverse instead of where microblogging systems post to. This option doesn&#x27;t give much benefit to me other than spending more money from what I can see but I might be missing something.<br><br><br>So help me, what do you think I should do? <p>Dear friends of the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a>, <br>I&#x27;m the barista at the BSD Cafe. </p><p>I try to do my best, and I try to moderate as best as I can. In a polarized world, I see reports of all kinds coming in (even against me!). <br>Often serious and valid, sometimes completely nonsensical.</p><p>But please, don&#x27;t look for political or ideological labels in my moderation. </p><p>Just as in FediMeteo I don&#x27;t decide to include new countries based on political or ideological affinities (but rather on practical ones or simply what&#x27;s easier for me), I don&#x27;t moderate the BSD Cafe based on a specific ideology - other than keeping the environment healthy and respectful.</p><p>In recent weeks, I&#x27;ve been accused of everything. Fascist and communist, red and black, too lenient or too strict, etc.</p><p>Your help is invaluable, and I thank you when you point out something that&#x27;s wrong or that you think could be improved. </p><p>And this, I believe, is an approach that helps all the friends of the bar.</p><p><a href="/tags/bsdcafe/" rel="tag">#BSDCafe</a></p>

<p>⚠️ Achtung: Phishing-Versuch im Fediverse</p><p>Gerade erreichte uns unter einem Beitrag ein Kommentar eines angeblichen „pixelfed bot“.</p><p>Darin wird behauptet, der Pixelfed-Account sei wegen „ungewöhnlicher Aktivitäten“ eingeschränkt worden und müsse innerhalb von 24 Stunden über einen angegebenen Link verifiziert werden.</p><p>Bitte diesen Link NICHT anklicken und keine Zugangsdaten eingeben! ⚠️</p><p>Der Kommentar ist sehr offensichtlich ein Phishing-/Spam-Versuch. Auffällig sind unter anderem der künstlich erzeugte Zeitdruck, die angeblich drohende Accountsperre und vor allem der externe Kurzlink zur „Verifizierung“.</p><p>Wir haben den betreffenden Kommentar auf unserer Friendica-Instanz bereits über die Administration gelöscht.</p><p>Falls euch ähnliche Kommentare begegnen: nicht reagieren, keinen Link öffnen, melden und – sofern ihr die Möglichkeit dazu habt – entfernen.</p><p>Passt gut auf eure Accounts auf.
