<p>A Crowdsourced Photo Gallery from the Fediverse – the Open Social Web in action</p><p>Here are some nice photos from around the fediverse: <a href="https://home.scoobysnack.net/gallery/" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>home.scoobysnack.net/gallery/</a>. That page updates automatically as new photos are posted.</p><p>How did they get there? Well… </p><p>People from all over Mastodon, Pixelfed, Lemmy and more posted photos into these communities:</p><p><a href="https://piefed.social/c/photography" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>piefed.social/c/photography</a></p><p><a href="https://lemmy.world/c/photography" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>lemmy.world/c/photography</a></p><p><a href="https://lemmy.world/c/japanpics" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>lemmy.world/c/japanpics</a></p><p>… and a few others. Moderators curate those communities to filter out anything obnoxious and people upvote the best ones.</p><p>Jerry used his PieFed account to create a “Feed” of 6 photography communities at <a href="https://feddit.online/f/photos" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>feddit.online/f/photos</a>. In PieFed a Feed is a bundle of communities with all their content shown together in a list. Those communities can be on any Lemmy, PieFed or Mbin instance. In the sidebar you can see all the communities in the Feed. That feed can be Followed, just like an account on Mastodon can be. </p><p>Someone on <a href="https://piefed.social" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>piefed.social</a> followed <a href="https://feddit.online/f/photos" rel="nofollow">~photos@feddit.online</a> (the ~ distinguishes it from a person, which uses @ at the start) which created this: <a href="https://piefed.social/f/photos@feddit.online" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="piefed.social/f/photos@feddit.online"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">piefed.social/f/photos@feddit.</span><span class="invisible">online</span></a>. (Following a feed automatically subscribes one to all the communities within and if Jerry adds a new community to the feed all the subscribers auto-follow the new community. <p>Once upon a time, I was very active on MySpace and then Facebook. Then things got really shitty, so I quit and joined BlueSky.<br> <br>I felt horrible, like the smallest bit of the code, unrecognized, shouting into the void for robots and scammers. But it a good place, right? And then they banned trans people while bringing in the authoritarians. </p><p>So, I thought all social media is bad, and I should try and get a website going where I could shout at the void on my own space.</p><p>I came across <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@_elena" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>_elena</span></a></span> and started playing around with PeerTube. I saw <span class="h-card"><a href="https://btfree.social/pub/actors/firesidefedi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>firesidefedi</span></a></span> talking about exciting things, connecting with real people, and rebuilding that good time I used to have being online.</p><p>It was exciting, but I wasn't sure. And then <span class="h-card"><a href="https://tv.theindiebeat.fm/federation/user/TIBtv" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>TIBtv</span></a></span> came on, and I was blown away. My people! There they are!</p><p>I hope other people like me quit lurking quietly and join in. It's fantastic here on the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a></p>
