<p>For the new kids joining Mastodon, let me share a common mistake I see with new users: </p><p>&quot;Mastodon sucks. There is no timeline. It&#x27;s like a tiny echo chamber here&quot;</p><p>What&#x27;s the mistake you ask? They invariably only follow a few dozen people.</p><p>This is what you need to understand about federated platforms like Mastodon: the server only pulls in data from people you follow! So, go out and follow some more people already.</p><p>You can also follow hashtags btw. This is great for getting more posts in your feed on subjects that interest you. Go and use hashtags in your own posts too of course.</p><p><a href="/tags/feditips/" rel="tag">#feditips</a> <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a></p>

<p>Starting to feel like this 2025 Influx of users is much larger than 2022 Influx of users. New users come in huge waves. Many of them also seem to genuinely like Mastodon according to the feedback. In 2022 many tried, soon gave up and left to Bluesky or back to X. Today, many have even deleted their commercial accounts and settled here.</p><p>I like this new development of things. Seeing new faces and more cat photos bring me so much joy. Thanks for being here. <p>Reading about <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a> and how it interconnects mastodon, peertube, pixelfeed and other platforms to where you can interact with the content without even having an account on the other platform. Is it all by posting links? I can’t think of content I’ve seen on here from one of those other platforms, u less it’s suppose to be that seemless. Thanks for helping me figure this out!</p>

The good thing is that you only see things in your feed from people you follow. The content is shown reverse chronological.</p><p>This means that you will likely see a lot less misinformation, hate speech and AI crap.</p><p>But if you do not follow anyone, your feed will feel empty. So go ahead and find people and organizations that you like and follow them. Make things interesting. There is a lot of interesting people out there. </p><p>The search is great for finding content and who to follow.
