fediverse

Recently, we were asked why we, a knowledge & community focused charity, were posting to celebrate cultural and religious holidays.

We believe that the Social Web has the potential to be the most diverse space on the entire web. But to get there, we have to start simple.

We aren't experts. We're learning each time we post (and we hope you are too). Our goal is to provide the very first stepping stones to that, diverse, Social Web we dream of.

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've last posted. I'm Sound Warrior, a totally blind electronic musician looking to get involved with the electronic music part of the #Fediverse if anyone could give me a few pointers on who to follow, who to contact, or who to maybe collaborate with, that would be great. I make a mixture of experimental rave music with #grime, #techno, and #jungle influences.

Curious to know the thinking/decision process behind showing the text "from 50 servers" 🤔

It does give the impression that many people are connecting from multiple servers, further educating folks about the Social Web. But do people need to be aware of them?

Snac2 is an excellent software solution for accessing the Fediverse. It is lightweight, very easy to compile and install, has minimal dependencies, and the development is progressing along a clear, clean, and logical path - thank you, @grunfink

Since last December, BSD Cafe has had, among its services, a snac instance - https://snac.bsd.cafe - which has been used sparingly, mainly by some for testing purposes. I’ve kept it as a 'testing' option.

In light of the interest it is generating (we now have stable users) and given that development is evolving to allow for both inbound and outbound movement, I have decided to designate it as a stable solution for accessing the Fediverse and to consider it a primary service of the BSD Cafe.

It has always received the utmost attention, I have consistently updated it promptly, and it has always been accessible, but I have also modified all the descriptions to clarify that it is a stable and definitive solution.

For more information, there is always a dedicated page on our wiki: https://wiki.bsd.cafe/snac.bsd.cafe

Stay Tuned!

I talk about the #Fediverse whenever I get a chance. The trick is being receptive, not pushy. Let them try it in their own time.

Only saying this because I now have two long time friends actively participating in the Fediverse where 6 months ago they had no interest.

One was even using an app with AP integration and didn't even know it.

Anecdotal? Absolutely! But our reality is built on our perceptions.

Very excited by this! 😄

• 我找到了明快打字机的专利网站：patents.google.com

Facebook

How many Fediverse software use Markdown as its default text format — rather than HTML?

I think both PeerTube and Lemmy are Markdown native — rather than HTML.

Anything else?

The "we're totally decentralized, bro!" social media platform #BlueSky is down at the moment. Which wouldn't happen if it was actually decentralized. So I'm posting about it on the #Fediverse

Hey #fediverse, is there an activitypub application similar to meetup? I would really like to add a trail ride planning platform to Dirt Social and i'm curious if something already exists.

I thought i remembered seeing one somewhere. but i can't find it now.

Thanks!

I've streamlined theme development in Ktistec. The theming system uses a hierarchy of CSS custom properties and fallbacks. Theme authors can customize a theme at multiple levels:

Base Colors Only

Define only base colors like --text-primary, --bg-primary, --bg-input, --semantic-primary, etc. Derived colors will auto-generate using color-mix formulas. For example:

:root { --semantic-primary: #ffa500; }

From this one line, theme-appropriate colors like --bg-accent-code, --anchor-color, etc. auto-generate.

Base Colors Plus Derived Colors

Define base colors and derived colors. Derived colors use custom values when defined. Undefined derived colors auto-generate. For example:

:root {
    --text-primary: #333;
    --text-primary-2: #ff0000;  /* red for this specific shade */
}

Given this theme, derived shades like --text-primary-1, --text-primary-3, and --text-primary-4 auto-generate. --text-primary-2 is red.

The simplest possible interesting theme redefines the primary semantic color. The single line above (in Base Colors Only) would result in the following, with button color, link color, disabled, selected, and hover states all derived automatically:

These changes will be in the upcoming release. Existing themes will continue to work, as is.

Ghost devs should talk to the @gotosocial devs about optimizations. My server (running on a small $8/mo Hetzner instance) barely uses any memory (less than 1GB) and doesn’t break a sweat when the wonderful @lisamelton (33k followers) boosts one of my posts.
