<p>Hey Fedi, I'm curious, where does the distinction between arcane n divine magic (i.e. mages and clerics) originate from? Was't DnD, or sth that predates it?</p><p>A lotta fantasy staples can be traced back'a Tolkien's works, but the wizards there all had religious significance (they were Maiar, effectively low-ranking angels), so I don't think the arcane/divine dichotomy was already present there (the magic was often less concrete n more mystical anyway). But a lotta modern fantasy works, notably DnD, various RPGs n RPG-inspired anime etc. have such a distinction. <p>The Fantasy series Pendragon is popular on many Torrent websites this week. Publishers really should study why people want to read backlist titles but in the eyes of publishers, this series is a failure and not worth talking about anymore. I actually really appreciate that the series is over. This is book 3 in a <a href="/tags/fantasy/" rel="tag">#Fantasy</a> series I have been eyeing up for some time now. I will not lie that the striking covers grabbed my attention.<br>- Taschen had a sale some time ago, allowing me to finally buy a volume I have long coveted: the collected works of <a href="/tags/hrgiger/" rel="tag">#HRGiger</a>. When it comes to their art collections, I always end up choosing their XXL versions. Expensive? Yes.
