You are standing outdoors on a sunny day in a rural, grassy farmyard. In the center of the image is a small, old-fashioned wooden outhouse or privy, built right against the side of a larger dark wooden barn or stable. The outhouse is made of weathered, silvery-gray planks with visible wood grain and knots. It has a simple slanted roof covered in light brown wooden shingles. A round ventilation hole is cut into the upper front wall. The door, made of the same wood but with a big diagonal “Z” brace, is wide open and swings outward to the right, revealing the interior. Inside the outhouse you can clearly see a raised wooden platform with a simple toilet seat on top. The seat has a curved wooden handle attached to the lid, making it easy to lift. Two small wooden steps lead up to the seat. The inside walls are also raw, aged wood, slightly darker and richer in tone than the outside.To the right, the big barn wall is much darker — almost chocolate brown — with heavy timber framing and criss-cross bracing visible. On the left side of the outhouse, green grass and weeds grow right up to the base, and in the background you see a sunny green meadow, a wooden fence, and leafy trees under a clear, pale blue sky. The whole scene feels peaceful, rustic, and historic — like a well-preserved piece of 19th-century farm life. The lighting is bright natural daylight, casting soft shadows under the roof overhang and on the gravel ground in front of the outhouse.

These thick, slightly weathered, semi-transparent strips (light beige to pale greyish) hang closely side by side from the top of the doorway, reaching almost down to the ground. The horse has pushed its head through the middle of them, parting the strips to the left and right like curtains. Only the horse’s head and the very top of its neck are visible between the hanging strips. You can see its white blaze on the forehead. The ears are pricked forward, showing interest or attention. The large dark eye is clearly visible, looking straight toward the camera. The mane is black and slightly tousled. In front of the doorway lies golden-yellow straw bedding, scattered across the ground. The whole scene has a calm, slightly rustic farm atmosphere.

I heard via @Alice that it’s #DoorsDay so here’s my share. I took this photo about 2 hours before the pretty green grass I shared in my earlier post. It’s in Coatesville, PA. Anyone familiar with that old old city? If so speak up—this place is an incredible historic site I hope is being restored. So I’ll not name it yet to see if anyone knows. Very old wood door with rusted antique strap hinges and small viewing panel of 6 small square panes is installed above the handle. It’s very crude, weathered and warped. The entrance is at the corner inside a long straight wall of the building to left, unseen, and a curving wall to the right. Building is made of mortared blocks of stone. An old asphalt sidewalk or parking pavement is almost crumbled up leading to the door. It looks sinister but maybe used to be magnificent before decades of decay.

A lovely door on Gramercy Park. It's a pretty area, but it's a locked park that people in certain buildings get keys to open. I have rarely, if ever, seen anyone in the park. It's so sad, that there's this beautiful space that never gets used.

They're about 10 stairs going up and each riser has four squares spaced out that are rimmed in black with a black X in the middle. It makes a pattern going up the stairs. The railings are very old style with a heavy black rod iron railing on top with brass fittings. In the foreground on the right at the base of the stairs the stonework curves around and turns into it's own street lamp. It is also black wrought iron. The doors at the top of the stairs are back with a criss cross pattern on the panels. Around the door is more of the ornate stonework in rust and on the left side are some carved rectangles going up the side of the building with plain ones in between. On the right side is the yellowish stone from the brown store next door and the leaves from a tree

For #DoorsDay, here's a famous door (roll-up door) in the San Telmo area of Buenos Aires...
It seems to get reinterpreted every once in a while - the most recent version I recall seeing has a red background. This pic was from June 2023 (the graffiti is signed Naso 2021).
