This 2011 #iMac has been running #Debian since version 10. Still kicking on the original install. It's maybe a little remarkable. The Mac has its original 1 TB spinning drive, which I haven't wanted to replace since that would require removing the screen. I'm too lazy for that. I did stuff it with 20 GB of RAM, and that makes it usable in the 2020s.

I should have taken a screenshot of the 'fetch' output on this laptop. Nice upgrades. Intel i7 (10th gen), upgraded to 32GB memory (two 16GB modules) and a new 1TB Crucial NVME SSD.

Any #Plan9 or #9front expert on fedi? I heard a lot about it and few days ago when I spotted a new release of the 9front and there was #qcow2 #QEMU images, I started to look at it. However I never get the #rio #GUI session to work. I am starting the #VM by:

It’s too easy to hit the BUY button.
But I do need to expand the test/dev servers so what better than some mid tier consumer grade multicore systems supporting virtualization.
I like using MacMinis too but this lets you get down and dirty.

This version introduces a beta integration with Proxmox’s native HA and affinity/anti-affinity rules (please report any kind of bugs!), allowing ProxLB to work seamlessly with existing placement constraints instead of duplicating them.
The balancing behavior has also been improved: operators can now prefer smaller or larger VMs during placement, and node memory reservations are respected to reduce overcommitment.
Overall, 1.1.11 makes ProxLB more predictable, safer, and better suited for production use, while paving the way for future HA-aware scheduling improvements.

WPA3 no Debian Trixie (GNOME 48)

Quando seleciono WPA3 nas configurações de segurança de uma rede WiFi no GNOME 48 do Debian Trixie, ela imediatamente quebra e fecha.
Só essa janela, não o sistema inteiro. Basta selecionar WPA3, não dá tempo nem salvar.

My least favorite feature of #Debian is that it defaults to installing nano and it defaults the editor to nano for things like visudo. What?

@simontatham It's been a looong time since I used #putty (I ran it in a #Wine "bottle", these came from #flatpak, I'm using Debian 13 #KDE). Thanks for all your efforts!
To my mind, 98% of the time, people would use putty to log into a #linux box/VPS, like say a #RaspberryPi (Raspberry Pi OS, is #Debian Trixie 13-based). This would be a sensible default assumption, **demographically**.
It took a good 2 hours of struggling, just to get 256 colors to work in Putty! (#Python's textualize library seriously expects 256, or *it can crash* when the Theme is changed). Please let the defaults be sane, so there's no struggle for 256 colors! Please alleviate my nerd rage - I beseech you!
1) Sane TERM env var:
Connection -> Data -> Terminal details -> Terminal-type string -> "putty-256color"
2) Sane default font:
Window -> Appearance -> Font settings -> "Change" button -> adwaita mono 12
3) Sane bolding of text:
Window -> Colors -> General options for color usage -> Indicate bolded text by changing: The font
4) Sane (Linux-terminal-style) Ctrl + Shift + {C,V} (for copy and paste):
Window -> Selection -> Assign copy/paste actions to clipboard -> Ctrl + Shift + (C,V}: System Clipboard
