A new long-term animal study of the widely used weed killer glyphosate find fresh evidence that the herbicide, introduced by Monsanto in the 1970s, causes multiple types of cancer, and may do so at doses considered safe by regulators. #ClimateChange

Colorado launches America’s first 100% electric garbage truck fleet.
In what the city is calling a national first, Louisville, Colorado officials held a “ribbon cutting” last Tuesday to celebrate the launch of a new, all-electric residential recycling and waste collection fleet, which is already the city’s streets. #ClimateChange

If you hate protesters blocking roads in the name of taking immediate #ClimateAction, you’re going to really hate how Climate Change itself blocks roads.
A picture today from Valencia, Spain where they received 500mm of rain, a year’s worth, in one day on Tuesday. >95 dead.

edit: More Pictures. Valencia is the third largest city in Spain. It affected towns just to the south (Sedavi) of it mainly as well as other areas of Southeast Spain.

In drought conditions, helpful commenters chime in that coal or nuclear should be used to back up unreliable renewables like hydro.
Except for one wee detail, wonderful.

Life Finds A Way.. the gigatons of plastic waste are a food and co2 emission source in waiting.
I really can't wait until I can revert to just posting about #climatechange, #water, and #science rather than garbage, racism, sexism, and the threat of a fascist takeover of America.
So, here's a pretty picture of water for now.

One whole year above 1.5
"The PR pros will tell you not to bother talking about arcane topics like 1.5 degrees — no normies understand the significance, and it just sounds like a little-bitty thing, anyway. ..maybe that explains why we just lived through the first full year above 1.5 C with only perfunctory coverage by the global media.
👉 ".. truth is, no one knows how many people are dying from extreme heat."

🌈 To change the world climate, societal climate must change.
We must stop breathing the stench from the overinflated #hypercapitalism balloon that's about to burst. Stop acting like farts of ultra-rich smell like roses. Climb down to earth.
Wake up. Fresh air and sun exist beyond the balloon cloth. No reek of materialism, vanity and strife.

The planet has just experienced the most widespread coral bleaching event ever recorded, lasting 33 months into 2025. Scientists warn that at 1.5C of global warming, up to 90% of coral reefs could be lost. Ninety per cent. And 1.5C is not lingering in the distance – it’s extremely close.

‘Sponge Cities’ Are Catching On. But Can They Handle Supercharged Storms?

Here's the thing about nuclear: it's too late to use it as a low-carbon alternative to coal, oil, and gas. If we were going to use it that way, we should have started doing that in the 80s and 90s. Now, we've basically already hit 1.5C of warming, which means that we can't count on the environment to be stable enough for reactors to function.
The only safe path forward is severely reducing our total energy consumption.
It Just Got Way Easier to Sue Fossil Fuel Companies Over Climate Change.
For years, industry has argued you can’t prove which company caused which disaster. A new study says otherwise. #ClimateChange #GlobalWarming
This is bad news, obviously, but let’s not pretend things weren’t already terrible. Led by the Biden administration, the US became the world’s #1 producer of fossil fuels.
That’s what you get when short-sighted capitalists take complete ownership of the political system and the government — under both parties.
Now it will just get worse.

Well, there's a headline that certainly captures the moment: Big banks predict catastrophic warming, with profit potential.
“We now expect a 3°C world,” Morgan Stanley analysts wrote earlier this month."
"The stunning conclusion indicates that the bank believes the planet is hurtling toward a future in which severe droughts and harvest failures become widespread, sea-level rise is measured in feet rather than inches and tropical regions experience episodes of extreme heat and humidity for weeks at a time."
"Morgan Stanley’s climate forecast was tucked into a mundane research report on the future of air conditioning stocks, which it provided to clients on March 17."
