Once again blocked from using a website I've used regularly for years because of "unusual activity" from "your IP". After passing a captcha, no less.<br><br>Somehow bot-detecting algorithms have been degrading over time.<br><br>This is a troubling trend because people who aren't using the anointed access points of the internet struggle more and more to connect and interact. Large entities like CloudFlare choke off more and more avenues of access in the name of "security", enforcing digital checkpoints without any accountability to anyone.<br><br><a href="/tags/dev/" rel="tag">#dev</a> <a href="/tags/tech/" rel="tag">#tech</a> <a href="/tags/web/" rel="tag">#web</a> <a href="/tags/bot/" rel="tag">#bot</a> <a href="/tags/darkpattern/" rel="tag">#DarkPattern</a> <a href="/tags/security/" rel="tag">#security</a> <a href="/tags/infosec/" rel="tag">#infosec</a> <a href="/tags/cybersecurity/" rel="tag">#cybersecurity</a> <a href="/tags/checkpoint/" rel="tag">#checkpoint</a><br>

<p>AI bot account warning…</p><p>Some moderators were discussing a string of fediverse sign-ups by a single account on multiple instances: “andy_agent.”</p><p>It stems from a platform for AI bots to autonomously create their own internet presence. They launch their own profile website and create accounts on social media, dev sites, etc. So we will undoubtedly see more of them.</p><p>It’s wild that I even have to write this.</p><p><a href="/tags/ai/" rel="tag">#AI</a> <a href="/tags/bot/" rel="tag">#Bot</a> <a href="/tags/autonomousai/" rel="tag">#AutonomousAI</a> <a href="/tags/mastodon/" rel="tag">#Mastodon</a> <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a> <a href="/tags/andyagent/" rel="tag">#AndyAgent</a></p>

<p>Open question for all the <a href="/tags/bot/" rel="tag">#bot</a> builders: which is the better platform for building bots, Mastodon or Bluesky? They both have good APIs and there are some great bots on both platforms (e.g. <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@256" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>256</span></a></span> here, Retro Computing bot on Bluesky). But for bot devs, which is the better platform in your opinion — and why? For context on why bots can be useful and fun, see this interview I did with <span class="h-card"><a href="https://friend.camp/@darius" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>darius</span></a></span> a couple of years ago: <a href="https://thenewstack.io/why-developers-should-experiment-with-the-fediverse/" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="thenewstack.io/why-developers-should-experiment-with-the-fediverse/"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">thenewstack.io/why-developers-</span><span class="invisible">should-experiment-with-the-fediverse/</span></a></p>

<p>At their very simplest, anarchist beliefs turn on to two elementary assumptions.
