Of course the church is full of magic and he has to be extra careful. Aresh is sent out to the field on a mission and does everything he can to protect Kondou before he leaves.

This week's #NewBooks at the library: I bought second-hand copies of Animal Anomalies: What Abnormal Anatomies Reveal about Normal Development and The Correspondence of #CharlesDarwin, Volume 14: 1866, both from Cambridge University Press. I also adopted a damaged copy of the large-format English/German Elefantenreich: Eine Fossilwelt in Europa from Verlag Beier & Beran, which features some amazing fold-out plates. I hear it is basically out of print now.

Pleading the Fish by Bree Baker and Thérèse Plummer (Narrator) (2022) is the satisfying conclusion to the Seaside Café mystery series. Everly Swan and Grady Hayes are engaged and actively seeking to disprove the Swan family curse. Unfortunately for both there's also a murder to solve: the killing of the woman who was helping them research the curse.

The 1908 battle of wits between charismatic French genius burglar Arsène Lupin and the English detective 'Holmlock Shears' of Parker Street. The mystery writing is not as tight as the first volume of Lupin's adventures, but the humiliations inflicted on the characters borrowed from Arthur Conan Doyle are really funny, particularly the depiction of Dr Wilson as a sycophantic moron.
"'Tell me, Wilson, what's your opinion: why was Lupin in that restaurant?'
Wilson,without hesitation, replied:
'To get some dinner.'
'Wilson, the longer we work together, the more clearly I perceive the constant progress you are making. Upon my word, you're becoming amazing.'

I'm looking for a romance author who is at least queer friendly (and some queer relationships!) I don't really want a series. I want the beach read kind of books where there's a main thread but also a friend thread and maybe even a few others. It all comes out happy in the end, and no one is annoyingly perfect. Contemporary setting would be nice, but not required.
(Having read _22_ books by Jill Mansell in the last 6 years, I think I have binged her stuff as hard as a I want to - I specifically want something similar but more queer)
