Just some #Gratitoot 😁
I realised that I've neglected to thank everyone who has boosted, commented, and favourited my shamelessly self-promotional book posts...
I just wanted to say that as someone who is retired with disablity I really appreciate the support.
It makes me feel maybe I can contribute something 😊

Delighted to receive an advance copy of Wilomina - the Land of Dreams & Nightmares from Scholastic.
I've adored Glasgow creators Metaphrog's work going back to the Louis books in the 90s, I'm sure I'm going to be recommending this to our younger readers in the bookshop.

Looking for recommendations for books with trans protagonists
I’ve been going to a queer book club, and we’re currently looking for books with trans characters to read next month.
Ideally we’d like a standalone book (not part of a series), and a story where trans identity is a significant part of it.
Thank you :)

Saw a book in Petrarchs Bookshop in Launceston that I thought my wife would like. She's not been feeling too good the past week, so I thought a gentle companion to her druidic texts. She is an ex-nurse, so there's that too.
I briefly had a look inside and it's fascinating, detailing local herbal remedies, which plants have which properties, useful implements, recipes etc, and all at a local level. Amazing!

Library Books on My TBR List That I’m Looking Forward to Reading: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-library-books-on-my-tbr-list-that-im-looking-forward-to-reading/
So, how do you manage #StandardEbooks in #Bookwyrm? Or #Goodreads? How do you add them manually?
Having Hard Time Reading a certain book.
I have started reading Climbing the Mountain My Search for Meaning by Kirk Douglas.
I picked it up at first because thought it was just another celebrity autobiography. But this one is different. Kirk goes over what it like to be Jewish and his search for his spirituality.
The problem is with how things are going in Gaza I am having hard time sympathizing with the Israeli the way written in this book. Further more I wonder how he would feel about it all if he was alive today?
Anyway 134 pages in and when he mentions the name Bibi Netanyahu I stopped and found it hard to breath. He doesn’t go in detail about the man but just passing note he wrote as he writing about a lunch he had with Prime minister Yitzhak Rabin.
As someone feels strongly that Israeli is committing genocide and Palestine should be set free, not sure I should finish said novel.
What would you do if your over halfway through a book that is interesting but then troublesome at same time?

How the Crusaders Turned Gaza into a Medieval Frontier Fortress
In the twelfth century, the Crusaders transformed Gaza into a fortified base on the frontier between the Kingdom of Jerusalem and Fatimid Egypt. Its construction isolated Ascalon, intensified the struggle for the region and helped open the way for attacks on Egypt.

Yesterday, I dropped into the library and picked up High Windows, Philip Larkin's brilliant poetry collection. I became interested in Larkin when I went to university in Hull. He had been the librarian at the university, but died just after I arrived so I never saw him. He was legendarily reclusive, so I probably wouldn't have seen him anyway!
High Windows has one of his most famous poems:
This Be The Verse
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.
But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.
Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.
