Poppy Pod

A tiny cactus “thumb” leaning at an angle against a very soft bokeh. The cactus has two teeny pink flowers with yellow centers that look like eyes, and a pointy flower bud between them that looks like a nose. It’s impossible not to see a face. The whole feeling is whimsical.

Finally got around to visiting the gardens of my local National Trust property, Llanerchaeron, yesterday. The walled gardens are inspiring. Not that I can aspire to having a walled garden but there are some great ideas for planting combinations, techniques for growing fruit and veg etc. and a cutting garden I can only dream of but maybe could replicate on a very small scale. I also came over all emotional. It was so beautiful.

Last night in the greenhouse...

'Queen of the Night' a night-flowering Cereus though not sure which one. The large (5"-6") flowers start to open late afternoon but are not in their prime until after dark. Then they're over by the morning.

This is the second season of my mini wildflower meadow on our front yard extension. It used to be just weeds and now it's covered in flowers. My neighbors thought I was crazy but now they are very complimentary.

The focus is on a single Indian Blanket Flower (Gaillardia pulchella) with red petals that are ringed in bright yellow, and a red and yellow center. There are more growing elsewhere in the mini meadow.

I think this is False Sunflower (Heliopsis helianthoides), as identified by the iNaturalist Seek app. It is over 6 feet tall and has taken over the mini meadow this year. It did not make any appearance last summer.

So many bumblebees and other smaller bees are living their best lives getting intimate with the little purple blossoms on the Agastache foeniculum stalks, also called Giant Hyssop or Anise Hyssop.

Slow-motion pollinators!

In back on railing corner is a bowl filled with rocks we fill with water for the bees.

Interesting that they aren’t competing. Maybe some pollinators do compete but i don’t think I’ve ever seen it — except maybe hummingbirds!

Bos dias. Empiezo a tener frio y la chaqueta me acompaña. Es el preludio del otoño y que una ya tiene una edad aunque aun pueda ganar alguna carrera o jugar al pilla-pilla, aunque mi juego favorito ahora mismo, seria jugar al escondite y que ni mi jefa, ni ningún cliente me molestase, también estaría bien tener un sofá en el trabajo, esto seria genial!
