I hit a wall using Blender. I was missing a plugin I relied on in After Effects: ToothPaste.
So I built one. Fought AI for months. Got a developer friend involved. Eventually, it worked.
Published it free on Blender Extensions. 2K downloads in a few months.
Pride and imposter syndrome clashed. But I published it anyway.
I guess others needed it too. That's enough of a prize for me.

All done! Took 90 minutes to render, on the dot.
I sorta want to make a 60fps version, maybe at half speed. But that would mean 4x the frames as this one, and I'm not ready to devote 6 hours of render time to this.
Not bad for a half-day's work! 😎

Já que o #Blender (#Blender3D) tá em evidência por ter sido mencionado no palco do Oscar, e por eu estar numa instância maio artística, vou deixar umas imagens que produzi no programa anos atrás. Eu queria ter continuado, mas PC quebra, falta grana, vem pandemia, as dificuldades de aprender por conta própria... Mas tá aí, acho que o resultado ficou legal, apesar de simples. Working on a little experiment, trying to convert a Batman artwork by the skilled Max Grecke to 3D as faithfully as possible.
Instead of focusing on modeling, as I usually do, I'm putting the emphasis on transferring the texture, which takes a lot of work in Blender Texture Paint.

So today I created a gradient #colorPallet with a program I made in #godot and tested it in two simple #lowPoly scenes which I created in #blender3d
I almost forgot how much fun it makes. And I really like the end result. Gradient Textures with low poly looks so pretty if you ask me 😍

On this, the eve of Flow taking home an Oscar, I want to note that Blender exists in its current form because after Ton Roosendaal spearheaded writing it, released it as freeware, had his company dissolve, tried developing it as shareware, had the company developing it go bankrupt, and built a non-profit foundation to crowd-source funding for it... Enough people stepped up to fund it that it still lives.
It's a hell of a testament to a software author---and a community's---insistence that in spite of market evidence to the contrary, the software is good and worthy of continued existence.

Stage gezocht!
Onze zoon studeert aan het Deltion (Zwolle), Creative Developer, het 3e leerjaar. Hij is een echte artist, geen programmeur. En al zeg ik het zelf (niet alleen omdat ik zijn vader ben 😊), hij maakt echt mooi werk. Hij voelt zich erg thuis in Blender en Substance 3d Painter en hij denkt in 3D (levert leuke gesprekken op 😁 ).
Hij is nog op zoek naar een stage voor de periode van augustus/september 2026 - februari 2027. Wie weet een mooie stage plek voor hem in de regio Zwolle/Deventer/Enschede? Het liefst in de game wereld maar alles waar hij zijn Blender skills kan tonen is erg welkom.
