Loch Thom

Just for the sake of recovering
I walked backward from fifty-six
Quick years of age wanting to see,
And managed not to trip or stumble
To find Loch Thom and turned round
To see the stretch of my childhood
Before me. Here is the loch. The same
Long-beaked cry curls across
The heather-edges of the water held
Between the hills a boyhood’s walk
Up from Greenock. It is the morning.

And I am here with my mammy’s
Bramble jam scones in my pocket.
The Firth is miles and I have come
Back to find Loch Thom maybe
In this light does not recognise me.

This is a lonely freshwater loch.
No farms on the edge. Only
Heath grouse-moor stretching
Down to Greenock and One Hope
Street or stretching away across
Into the blue moors of Ayrshire.

And almost I am back again
Wading in the heather down to the edge
To sit. The minnows go by in shoals
Like iron-filings in the shallows.

My mother is dead. My father is dead
And all the trout I used to know
Leaping from their sad rings are dead.

I drop my crumbs into the shallow
Weed for the minnows and pinheads.
You see that I will have to rise
And turn round and get back where
My running age will slow for a moment
To let me on. It is a colder
Stretch of water than I remember.

<p>It's been a busy work week so far and I did not have a lot of time to go through bird photos, also because of this borby specimen. The MoDos are constantly on the feeders, filling the camera roll with thousands of photos 😆 I try to go through them all each night but with more activity there are also more photos, and some days I am just spent. Good night with this goofball, here's to a less stressful Wednesday! <a href="/tags/birds/" rel="tag">#birds</a></p>

I tend to put things off whenever I feel like it, but the ever-growing grass serves as a reminder that I need to take action—kind of like my cluttered desktop. For weeks, I've been telling myself I need to clear it off, yet I let things stay there simply as reminders that each item requires attention. You see how that works, right? Then there's the water bottle in the corner—I have no idea why it's there, but it's been sitting for a while. A mystery not worth solving. I also need to vacuum my office floor. Notice things.

Sometimes, when I'm out walking, I spot something and snap a picture. Unlike the days of film, there’s no cost to taking the shot—even if it seems unremarkable at the time. But later, as I sift through the photos, I notice details I overlooked. When I took this particular shot, I focused on the birds without really seeing the forest around them. I’m not sure what species they are, but I’d guess they belong to the local pigeon battalion.

<p>I wanted to get a picture of a puffin with the mountains in the background instead of the sea. Without a wide-angle lens, this was the best I could pull off lol. <p>A rather poignant commentary on <a href="/tags/war/" rel="tag">#war</a> and the <a href="/tags/environment/" rel="tag">#environment</a></p><p>Because of radio frequency jamming, fiber optic <a href="/tags/drones/" rel="tag">#drones</a> are being used by <a href="/tags/russia/" rel="tag">#Russia</a> and <a href="/tags/ukraine/" rel="tag">#Ukraine</a> on the frontlines</p><p>They just spool the fiber out as they fly</p><p>Apparently some areas look like giant spider webs everywhere from the endless <a href="/tags/drone/" rel="tag">#drone</a> flights</p><p>And <a href="/tags/birds/" rel="tag">#birds</a> are now using the waste of war to make their nests</p><p><a href="/tags/ukrainewar/" rel="tag">#UkraineWar</a></p>
