Two weeks ago my therapist validated my struggles by telling me that it is extremely difficult for AuDHD people to find their niche, their place in this world. I had to cry and answered that this is the reason why my world is so small.
Today I had a double session with her and told her about my everyday life, my routines, my social contacts (mostly online), my special interests, my self regulation techniques and my personal insights.
She didn't say much, but she agreed that neurotypical people mostly communicate emotion based and autistic people fact based. Me telling her about my autism parenting my ADHD made her laugh and she appreciated it.
At the end of the 90 minutes session I concluded that my world isn't small, it's huge, especially my inner world and she said
"Yes, your world isn't small, it's just different."
Moments like this are the outcome of working with a neurodiversity affirming, experienced therapist on a highly professional level. I am so lucky that I have found her.
