Text detection from images is available right inside the attachment preview window of Mastodon clients. This makes adding meaningful #altText a breeze. Here's hoping that these kinds of thoughtful features push #accessibility support within the Fediverse even further.

I can’t make people care enough to write #AltText for their images, but I can refuse to boost posts that don’t have Alt Text for their images.

I’m sure I’m not alone.

With everything I have been learning about #AltText, #CamelCase and screen readers, I am deeply embarrassed and sorry about my previous Mastodon display name.

All the emojis (pencil, sparkle, camera) and TWO asterism symbols (before/after my name) could have caused problems for people who use screen readers.

I'm so so sorry, I didn't know. I removed everything and I'm only keeping one asterism symbol after my name

Currently writing a self-hosting guide for newbies, showing off the beauty and ease of #YunoHost.

Two for the price of one today! A sunny day for a sculpture in New York and a rainy day for a sculpture in Budapest. The New York photo was taken by me on Friday and the Budapest photo was also taken on Friday by my husband, and edited by me. It's very sweet that he's looking for public art to take photos for me 😊

Adding alt text to your images in posts isn’t only showing solidarity for visually impaired followers, it also helps people discover your posts.

For example, if they are searching a word or phrase that happens to be in your image description.

My amaryllis just bloomed. I've had it for 4 yrs now & this is only the 2nd yr it's bloomed. This variety is commonly called butterfly amaryllis and I just love the color/feathering 👍.

Today's #MothOfTheDay is a nationally scarce micro #moth. But one did visit the moth box Friday night. If you see spindle covered in massive webs, it is likely to be a common, indeterminate form of yponomeuta spindle ermine. This one, with grey suffusion, however, is not common at all:

It is long and tubular, holding its wing very tight to its abdomen It is white with a number of random black dots, particularly more so running in a line along the outside wing edge close to the table surface, but they are generally all over. Its distinctive markings from other yponomeuta species are areas of grey suffusion, a faint spot on its back, a larger smudge in the middle of the wing, and again greying to the fringed termen (back wing edge furthest away from its head). It has two coiled orange galeae (like a thin, long tongue) for feeding and long white antennae which it holds close to its body. It has a tiny head which pinhead eyes (right side only visible in this picture) and two palps (lips) which curve up from its mouth. It also has thin white legs.

2️⃣ Improved HTML tag handling with smart cleaning to preserve line breaks.
3️⃣ Added an infinite loop with a 60s delay to continuously analyze images in posts.
4️⃣ Enhanced error handling, with specific exceptions for redirects and other request issues.

Dear #ALT text users

I get it. #AltText matters. I do my best to add alt text, but I have low energy & failing eyesight & a poor-quality screen. I rely heavily on @altbot.

I have a high rate of alt text, but well below 100%. If altbot fails, I usually don't have the energy to manually write alt text. For my small audience, the effort is usually disproportionate.

If you want to help, thanks ❤.

But if you are just a Nazi puritan who snipes at me for not hitting 100%, you can eff right off.
