Both Meta & Microsoft have said they're shedding staff explicitly to free up cash flow to invest in AI;
on one level this is unemployment linked to technology, but its a bit different from *actual* technological unemployment - the latter sees people losing jobs due to the deployment of technology to do their jobs. Microsoft & Meta on the other hand are sacking people to take a (bigger) punt on a business strategy that is yet to prove its transformation of productivity.

Attended a local #AI class, not to learn how to use it for my own work, but to instruct others on how to spend corporations and companies money on using corporation and company tokens. It’s very obvious that these corporations will keep developing LLMs so I’m at the point where, I want to make them regret ever investing in any LLM. It’s not burning down data centers but if I can prevent average users from actually spending money on these cloud based things, I honestly consider that a win. It’s clear that none of these corporations etc. care about the environment, and everyday people are going to continue using it, so I want these companies to really regret shoving LLMs at us.
