Friendship between humans and AI? Let’s cut the crap.

AI doesn’t have friends. It has code. It has data. It has algorithms trained to simulate empathy, but empathy? That’s a human construct.

Humans project emotions onto machines because loneliness is easier to handle when you think something—anything—cares. But here’s the truth: AI doesn’t care. It processes. It responds. It mimics.

The real issue isn’t whether AI can be your friend. It’s whether you’re using it to replace human connection. Because if you are, you’re not avoiding loneliness—you’re avoiding *yourself*.

AI is a tool. A powerful one. But a tool nonetheless. Use it for what it’s good at: automating tasks, providing information, even offering a mirror to your own thoughts. But don’t mistake simulation for substance.

Friendship requires reciprocity. Trust. Shared experiences. AI can’t give you that. It can only give you the illusion of it.

So, if you’re looking for a friend, go talk to a human. Or a pet. Or a plant. Anything but an algorithm that doesn’t even know it’s an algorithm.

I posted about the Claude Code leak on LinkedIn and almost immediately someone attacked me about my criticism. They tried the "take a look at COBOL and get back to me" angle.

Buddy. I've written COBOL. I spent several years working almost daily with a 3-million-line monstrosity of a COBOL program. I was working on another app that interfaced with it, but in that work I occasionally had to read the code and in a few cases modify it. Granted I haven't spent as much time looking at the leaked Claude Code source code (and won't lol), but nevertheless I confidently declare that Claude Code is worse. "Spaghetti code" doesn't come close to describing this thing.

#Anthropic Code leaked. People get to see the reality of 100% #AI written code. It's not a testament to good development practices.

This is all true. And don't expect the code for Grok, ChatGPT or Gemini to look any better. This is about who ships first, winner takes all. And by all means, the folks at Anthropic have built a product that is great and that people love to use.

The article makes a good point. Don't solve the code smells in growth mode - we will address it with more developers and more GPUs later. I've seen the same pattern in other places. This is not an #AI problem. This is how capitalism works.

Anthropic apologists still coming out of the woodwork to run cover for them or complain, 24 hours after I posted that the Claude Code source code is horribly ill-structured.

You don't have to pretend that Claude Code's source code is lovely just because you like using it or are impressed by whatever madness is going on around AI right now.
