How do you convince yourself to learn something small first?
I have a difficult time starting anything and an even harder time finishing. And I have been known to start at later steps than I should. I was even like that with reading.
I end up all or nothing a lot.

Finished reading this almost cover to cover - Dr Louise Newson’s book called The Definitive Guide to the Perimenopause and Menopause.
If you or someone who know might be impacted by perimenopause or menopause - in the future or now - read this! Or a book like it.
Perimenopause and menopause is so much more than hot flushes and brain fog. It can disrupt many bodily systems causing both physical and mental health problems and it often isn’t intuitive to consider whether hormones might be involved in those.
This book is relatively inclusive of trans and nonbinary folx, also mentions the common experiences of people with ADHD, early menopause (for various reasons), post natal depression, and many relevant health conditions from PMDD to POI.
Don’t wait until you’re a “certain age”, read up about it all now because the impacts can begin sooner than you might realise.
To fellow autistics: I saw a survey of autistic people a while ago that showed most people really benefit from know about perimenopause and menopause in advance. On the flip side of this, many people end up discovering they are neurodivergent because perimenopause broke their ability to mask and cope. This book (and others like it) can forearm you with enough knowledge to ask a GP for help and early.
For anyone with a pre-existing chronic illness that has an inflammatory component to it like I have, note that perimenopause can mess things up with that too!

I'm looking into books not just about #ADHD, but specifically about the use of #psychostimulant drugs to treat it. I was hoping to find professional reference books. Instead, what I'm finding, overwhelmingly, are strident denunciations of #ADHD as unreal, and of the drugs as tools of diabolical mind control. The atmosphere of this discourse, the vibe, absolutely creeps me out. It's dismaying. It's worse — much worse! — than anti-addiction drug-war literature; many of THOSE people are surprisingly positive about what they see as responsible, legitimate use of scheduled drugs under prescription. Instead, the anti-#ADHD-drug literature is more reminiscent of the intensely toxic atmosphere of two other social pathologies we've become wearisomely familiar with: #antivax, and the "#autism overdiagnosis" school of thought that tries to deny the very reality of our identity.
Indeed, I suspect that at bottom the motivation behind all three social movements — #antivax, anti-#ADHD, and anti-#autism — is the same: denial of the Other. Whether it's plagues or neurodivergence, these people want above all to deny the reality of anything that would force them to make drastic alterations to their lifestyles. It's one step away from wishing other ethnic groups didn't exist.
If you’re AuDHD, you know the drill: time slipping through your fingers, hyperfocus hijacking your day, and that crushing decision paralysis when there’s just too much noise. To survive (long before my diagnosis), I built systems. Today, those systems are my cure.
The secret? It’s not about becoming more efficient; it’s about finally stopping the fight against yourself.

New video: How binaural beats work, and why I use 11Hz Alpha waves in my music.
AarDHD is a project creating functional music for focus and calm. The tracks use binaural beats for brainwave entrainment. The first release, "Flow State" is designed for people with ADHD and autism, or who needs help concentrating or calming down.

I put a lil 3x2 poll in the field and invited viewers to @ me with more detail about their answers.
The poll asks for your autism status and your eating speed and I'm testing the hypothesis that autie folks eat faster.
The number of people disclosing #ADHD diagnoses in full confidence that's all they have/are 😂
So you trauma dumped in your first message, you gave me a family history, you told me you have limited insight and theory of mind, and that checks out, because none of this is ringing any bells? The call is coming from inside the house!

Me: "I think I'll spend the weekend tidying up the house, crocheting, and watching TV."
My Brain: "I think you'll be spending the next two-to-seven weeks obsessively learning embroidery."
Me: "What? No, I just---"
My Brain: "ALL THE HOOPS! TEA TOWELS EVERYWHERE!"
If I want to be somewhere at 6:30pm, I have to start planning and preparing to get there the night before. Am I alone in this?
Kia ora all, I've just started a really cool new job at the end of last year as a tutor for Brain Play! We teach STEM subjects to groups of kids, and do 1:1 tutoring of #neurodivergent children too.
I'm AuDHD, so I empathise so much with the kids I get to work with.
Kind of an #ad but I really believe in the cause and am not being paid to share this, so there's that 😉

I'm getting a lot out of the Neurodivergent Insights newsletter by Dr. Megan Anna Neff. For example, this post about the overlap of ADHD and autism:
https://neurodivergentinsights.com/misdiagnosis-monday/adhd-vs-autism/
Dr. Neff is herself AuDHD who turned her hyperfocus on her neurotype into a PhD in psychology. She's also raising a neurodivergent kid with strong PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance, which she calls Pervasive Drive for Autonomy):

I just had an idea that I want to run by the neurodivergent community as a possible way that some of us might be able to help each other. I have no idea if anyone would be interested in trying it, or even if it would work, so I want to know what others think.
If you want, you can skip down to "The Idea" below, or you can bare with me for a tiny bit of background first for some context.
So like many of us I have executive function issues. For me, when I get a new interest, I hyperfocus on it for a couple of weeks or months, and then I stop. Not because I lose interest in it, it's more like running out of gas while still on the road: you really want to keep going, but the damn thing just won't move. This is not really a problem for most of my interests, but for certain projects, it can leave them unfinished, which really frustrates me.
So far the only thing that I've found that can give me energy to continue a project is engagement. If I can find someone to talk to about it, that helps. If they talk with me about it, that helps more. If they actually work with me on the project (assuming that it's the kind of project that someone can help with), that helps the most. The trouble of course has been finding people who are also interested in the same thing(s), thus this pretty much never happens for me.
But now I recall some people in the autistic/ND community saying that they actually like listening to other people info-dump about their special interest(s). So this got me thinking...
The Idea:
Basically this shares some traits with body doubling and mutual aid. If someone like me needs engagement to work on a project (or maybe even just share an interest for the sake of some social contact), and someone else would be interested in helping out this way, the second person would be like their interest-buddy (hopefully a better name will be found). Kind of like how some people help others by body-doubling, except this will be with talking or maybe even participating instead of presence. And like body doubling, it can be a one time thing, an ongoing arrangement of some kind, whatever the two (or more?) people agree on. But unlike body doubling, it can be done (well more easily anyway) over the internet. Social media posts, DMs, chats, voice, whatever. Of course discovery would an issue, but no different than for body doubling or mutual aid, so I'll leave that issue.
So how about it? Is there any merit to this? Any use? Any interest? (And I mean in general, not just for me.)

MYTH: ADHD is overdiagnosed.
REALITY: For every person diagnosed,
there are ten more sitting somewhere right now thinking they're just broken.
Been de-cluttering my choices of video games as well as trying out more chill genres for my autistic brain.
It is SO SURREAL sometimes, to have spent my entire childhood and about half my adult life getting absolutely mauled by the world for my neurodivergence, only to find myself now in this position where I'm the one whom neurotypical friends come to when their partners and coworkers with ADHD or autism are doing something weird. Suddenly I'm the spouse whisperer! It's hilarious.
Before this the world was like, "What's WRONG with you??!!"
Now, the world is sweetly like, "Hi, can I have a moment of your time? Can you help me understand what's wrong with this other person?"

I came across this article in a post and wanted to share with the group. I'm really digging how the #Māori view #Neurodiversity and #Autism! @autistics
reframe takiwātanga (Autism), aroreretini (#ADHD), and other neurodiverse traits as taonga: unique ways of being that carry their own mana, strengths, and gifts."
Thank you for posting and pointing to the blog, yet another case where the wisdom of native people beats that of white colonist bigots by far.
Is it just me, or are web bookmarks kinda write-only? XD
I might have referred back to them a little bit in the 90s when it was harder to find interesting things, but I've just been dumping things into ~/Documents/Notes/bookmarks.txt for years now without hardly ever referring back to them.
Me: Ooo, this is neat, let's save it to read it later!
My #ADHD brain: Yeaaaah, riiiiiiiight. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
