@autistics #ActuallyAutistic there is a very specific piece of “administrative structure" at work i ask this about nearly every day, sometimes multiple times a day…
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic just learned about weaponized incompetence for the first time today…
…i can't help but think this sort of passive aggressive behavior is used against us somehow

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 931 , Saturday 16/05/2026
Saturday started earlier than I would have liked, I was aiming for a lie in but my body decided that 7am was late enough!
Today has been … frustrating.
Playing Elite Dangerous & nearly home with the meta alloys & a chunk of exploration data when I misjudged a landing on a high gravity planet & kerboom scratch one ship! Luckily I had insurance so got my ship back, but the cargo & all the data is gone. On the plus side I am back in the system where the meta alloys are at … although finding them will be more difficult since the sites I hit before have yet to recover!
So we start again …
We had a Babylon 5 fest this afternoon, followed by ‘The Dark Knight’.
We had a takeaway for tea, fried chicken goes well with a bit of Batman!
Final Thoughts.
It’s only a game but the set back really stung, but what doesn’t kill you makes you remember not to do that silly thing again!

@actuallyautistic@a.gup.pe I just did that autistic thing again, where I present facts to someone, FYI style, trying to offer some help and guidance - without realising that they did not ask me for help, nor were they ready to accept said facts.
Then to make it worse - I did another autistic thing again, where when they respond with anger, but sarcastically - I just think they are joking.
How am I supposed to know they're angry when they look like they're smiling? So, my response was to laugh, like you are supposed to when someone is joking (even if you don't get it) - but then I continue to emphasise the actual facts... as they are still the actual facts, and I felt were important to understand.
💥Then everything suddenly blows up, seemingly out of nowhere!... 💥 Emotion is flying everywhere ..and now I definitely recognise the angry face. 😠
Then I have to spend the next hour playing it all back, and going through the entire thing to work out if it was my fault, and where that fault exactly was.
I did conclude that there was no way for me to know that they would be triggered, and so I can't take responsibility for that. I also can't take responsibility (anymore) for not "reading the room" - in the same way someone in a wheelchair cannot take responsibility for not using the stairs - especially as I now make a point of telling people that I'm autistic.
However, I did try to force help on someone, not ready to receive it, and who didn't ask for it. Something I have done many times before. Just... out of caring really - but a mistake I don't seem to realise until after I've made it.
But, it isn't just that I was forcing something they are avoiding, but I also understand that with neurotypical thinking, trying to help someone who didn't ask for it, can come across as judgemental. As though you are putting yourself on a higher level, as a pretense, to look down upon them - making them feel inadequate.
For me, in my mind, it was just meant FYI, and a subject I know well enough in the details to feel confident enough in relaying that information.
Something that is often problematic for us Autists in many different situations. Where we present simple facts, but which are received with connotations, or with hidden meanings, that we just never meant....

Wednesday has been a quiet day, no gym as they were closed today - new equipment being delivered!
Final Thoughts.
My back has finally decided that it may forgive me for the abuse it got on Sunday & Monday!
I need to get some stuff done tomorrow though!

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 992 , Thursday 16/07/2026
Thursday started a little later at around 07:15.
Another pleasantly warm day here in deepest, darkest Yorkshire & another quiet relaxing day.
The ‘high point’ was putting up 2 corkboards for Mrs S after she pestered me into it. Didn’t help with any of the chores mind.
Final Thoughts.
Back to the gym bright and early tomorrow morning … joy!

Sapolsky Thursday
.
there's some stuff about identities and being biracial but I don't think there's anything needs a warning. I mean I maybe could have used one, but I think folks are used to it - you'll see in the first comment or two 😬
.
OK, here's the warning: there's all these studies that show group dynamics already at work very early in life, kind of even too early for my wholeview
.
it's all trolling me, so I gotta lotta comments

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 987 , Saturday 11/07/2026
Saturday started around 07:15 & not without a struggle, I really did not want to get up but noises both in our house & next door forced me out of bed.
It’s been a Lovely day weather wise & it encouraged me to get my chores done, clean the upstairs floors & then this afternoon reinstall linux (in the shape of Kubuntu) on my MBP.
We had a chinese takeaway for tea & watched ‘Night at the Museum’ or rather Mrs S did, I kinda watched it in passing as I messed with the laptop.
Final Thoughts.
Not a bad day, I even made some inroads in clearing out the front bedroom - there is still a lt of junk to shift before we can decorate but progress has been made!

Project unmasking: I've noticed I look way less to people's eyes when it's my turn to talk. I think I used to try to maintain eye contact even during my turn unless I really had to think at the same time. Now I take off-time even during casual conversations and stop the eye contact almost completely during more demanding work chatter. When others talk, I return to the eye contact but I actually like it. Unless I have to process somewhat more demanding incoming information, then off I go again.
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 829 , Tuesday 03/02/2026
Tuesday started at just after 7am.
It’s been a grey & drab day, the British winter returning to the way I remember it as a kid!
Its been one of those quiet days today with nothing to really diffentiate it.
Well apart from chocolate brownies & custard for dessert at tea time!
Final Thoughts.
I am just so overwhelmed by world events, I saw a thing on Fartarge faking a photo op with a kid with brain cancer, turns out it’s AI slop.
All this *spreads arms wide* is filling up what little space I have spare in what passes for my brain has me avoiding almost all other human interactions.
Where once I would have commented on a toot now I don’t, it takes a physical effort to keep in touch with folk.

EDIT: fixed a typo.
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 856 , Monday 02/03/2026
Monday started at around 07:30.
Mrs S was off to the off to the office so I had the house to myself!
It’s been a reasonably quiet day, the sun showed its face around lunchtime so after lunch I had another hour doing decorating prep work in the box room.
Spent the rest of the afternoon chasing baddies around medieval Bohemia.
Final Thoughts.
I’ve discovered that topping my Costco choc chip cookies with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream is a lovely way to enjoy them! Sadly my waistline will not agree!
In other news Sophie mog has now got a new item in her daily schedule, she will come & sit on the arm of my chair with me for an hour or so in the early afternoon, just prior to her main afternoon nap & allow me to stroke between her ears - her 2nd most favourite thing after being brushed.
This is an agreeable arrangement for both of us. 😊

For those of you who may be interested.
After ten days of staring intently at the letterbox. Our noble hero's motionless vigil was finally rewarded, as the blue badge of parking happiness finally arrived on his doormat. Slowly he creaked into life and bent down to pick it up. Dislodging no small amount of dust, several spiders, who had taken his stillness as a gift from their web making Gods and one somewhat confused pigeon, who had perched on his head, thinking he was a statue. (Because, no matter how impossible, or improbable, there is always one.)
OK, perhaps it didn't happen quite like that. But, finally, religiously looking for and checking to see if it had arrived yet, has paid off and I can stop worrying about whether the various emails telling me that it was going to arrive, were actually some sort of mistake and that it was never going to. No, now I can start worrying instead, that getting one at all is some sort of blunder and I will be getting a demand soon for it to be returned.
For which the only thing I can say is, why, brain, why?
Brain: Because it is how I roll. Clearly from past experience, it is a possibility.
Despite the fact that something like this, hasn't happened, far more times than it has.
Brain: Question not, how the system operates. Oh, and have a side order of, suddenly being confronted by the confirmation of how much more disabled you are now, and likely to stay that way, than you were before Christmas and having to come to terms with that too.
Damn! Stupid contradictory brain, just one of them would have been enough. 😒
I think with my new personal assistant I will use another strategy than I did with the ones in the past. Instead of explaining that I have a different neurology and all that, because none of them has a neurodiversity affirming perspective on autism I will go for
"Yeah, I am like an alien, a creature from another universe. Expect the unexpected. I am crazy in the right way and we will have a lot of fun together. Let's go."
Something like that.
Works of course also for self diagnosis/realization!
“Autistic rest is the recovery your nervous system needs after the constant work of navigating a world built for a different kind of brain. For many late-diagnosed autistic adults, rest has become something you believe you have to earn through productivity, because masking taught you that your worth is measured in output. It is not. Rest is not a reward you unlock by finishing the list. It is a basic need, and your need for it is higher than most people around you, not lower.“

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 993 , Friday 17/07/2026
Friday started bright & early & I managed to get my squirrelly ass down to the gym.
Tried the new treadmill - not a fan, (which it lacks, a sad oversight given the current temperatures!).
It’s been a productive day in small ways.
The coffee machine has been cleaned & descaled, the dishwasher has had a cleaning cycle & a variety of other minor tasks.
I got some new shoes for round the house yesterday & they are wonderfully light & comfortable!
Pizza for tea with cider to wash it down while we continued with our Babylon 5 fest - currently in the first quarter of series 2.
Final Thoughts.
It has been another pleasant summer day here in deepest, darkest Yorkshire & while I have not achieved anything significant progress has been made!

My point is, what is the point of trying to show the violence is forever except to justify it today? What good does it do us to think that it’s forever?
