I mentioned to my therapist today that autistics are often disbelieved and mistrusted by NTs. She was surprised by this, considering that not liking to lie is, itself, a common autie trait. I seem to recall seeing other people express this sentiment, but it made me wonder if this is more of just a me thing rather than an Autistic thing. I'm also curious about age demographic breakdowns as younger auties will have grown up in a world that's had more exposure to us.
I am finding the story of #JasonArday really tragic. It looks likely he was bullied into suicide by (mostly) the right wing UK press, despite the fact that autists are 9x more likely to kill themselves than the average person, and suicide is the second most common cause of death for autistics. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/aug/14/jason-arday-found-dead-after-resigning-from-cambridge-over-plagiarism-claims?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other #Autism #autistic #neurodiverse @autistics #AutisticBurnout #ActuallyAutistic
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 975 , Monday 29/06/2026
Monday started at around 6am as it is a gym day.
Not a bad gym session, pushed past the 5.7km/h barrier I’ve been struggling with on the treadmill so that was encouraging.
Did a little gardening after breakfast & chores then some exploring in Starfield.
We had a Costco™ trip late this afternoon … heck stuff is so expensive now.
Had a naughty takeaway for tea, we were originally going to have tea at Costco™ but it was literally standing room only in the cafe & neither of us fancied that!
Final Thoughts.
Not a bad day, although I had a dizzy turn in Costco™, I think these are caused by a mixture of me being really tired & the lighting in there!

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 942 , Wednesday 27/05/2026
Up early, before the 06:30 alarm - the cold woke me … I say cold it was 21ºC but given it was 27 when I went to bed it was considerably cooler!
Hit the gym then did my chores.
Then I spent a chunk of the day fitting a shelf/ step in the box room & then tidying said room up for the decorator tomorrow.
Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours on the PS5 then had to make tea when Mrs S got home. Chicken burgers with the last of the salad & then a couple of scoops of ice cream for dessert.
Final Thoughts.
A very busy day but I actually feel like I accomplished something - even if,as is useually the case these days, wholly on my own.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 960 , Sunday 14/06/2026
A quiet day with nothing really to report.
Given that I had an epic gaming session (the first time in a long time) that lasted until it was so late at night it was early in the morning, this was not a bad thing.
Final Thoughts.
The bug I picked up last week lingers, a bit achy & a bit snotty & coughing.
Still struggling to read large tracts of text, it’s weird like I can see the words but it’s like trying to see the crystalline form of a snowflake - in a blizzard.

@autistics #ActuallyAutistic it's board newsletter day again and seeing the draft content left for me has me thinking about my recent annual review
i rated myself far lower than my manager did, and it wasn't out of false modesty, but rather that i hold myself to a higher standard (as society does) than others are held do
what i see as doing the standard is deemed being exceptional in comparison to the piss poor work from the “socially acceptable”
and frankly this is why #EnoughIsEnough
Been to pick up a "new to us" car today, to replace the one written off last Sat. Exactly the same model/spec/age and hence interior. The dealers were great. When I explained we are ND and have sensory issue with smell they didn't use ANY chemical products when valeting. Perfect! Like putting a pair of well loved slippers 😊

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1008 , Saturday 01/08/2026
Saturday has been a fairly quiet day.
I seem to have pulled a muscle of 3 in my chest this week, exertion has been painful today & left me a little short of breath today.
Tidied up some of the stuff in the garage to start to make some room for all the stuff that my late FiL left me.
Takeaway for tea accompanying ‘Night in the Museum 2’ - Mrs S’s choice. It was ok but not as good as the original.
Final Thoughts.
Not a bad day I hope that my chest is less painful tomorrow I need to have another session sorting out in the garage at my late MiLs.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1022 , Saturday 15/08/2026
Saturday started quite late at just before 07:30.
A quiet day, we continued out LotR fest this afternoon - sadly our (very) well used blu-ray extended collection is starting to show it’s age with the first disk of ‘The Two Towers’ sticking in several places even after some (careful) cleaning.
We succumbed & got the remastered HDR 6 movie set from Apple by way of a late anniversary present to each other.
Enjoyed a chinese takeaway while we watched Gandalf free Theoden from Saruman & evict Grima.
Final Thoughts.
Not a bad day, I am slowly moving all the stuff from

So tomorrow is the big day that I've been... anticipating... for months now: my first appointment with a psychiatrist. And yeah, I'm a bit nervous. First of all, what kind will they be: a nice, caring person who actually listens and is well informed about and supportive of neurodiversity? Or an old-school, manipulative elitist who likes having control over people and may have more control over my life than I want them to? How much self advocacy am I going to have to do? (Of course I've been madly scripting since I got the appointment.) And how much of that will do any good?
And then there is the possibility that, thanks to a misunderstanding with another doctor, that this one will likely think that I am there to get a diagnosis for autism and adhd. But really what I want is someone to talk to about my situation, goals, and options, like how to navigate the system and whether a diagnosis would benefit me more than any potential drawbacks. I worry that when told this that they will get angry and tell me that I just wasted their time (typical RSD). (sigh) I guess we'll just have to wait and see. 😬
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic me anytime a work meeting starts
This is a bit polarising, but I do think that autistic people are black and white thinkers while at the same time we are able to find the nuances in between. I have the impression that many neurotypical people think in shades of grey, but stay away from the black and the white to be able function.
This is goes into the same direction as the intense world theory and us having a spicy skill set.
Some years ago I read a tweet that stated, that autistic people's memories are sharp pictures while allistic people have kind of blurred movies. I don't know if that's true, but makes sense in this context.
It takes us so long to get the whole picture, but once we have it, it's very precise. We build it out of details until we understand the concept, it doesn't come to us naturally, it's hard work.
I made the experience that people perceive me as negative when I am rational and do not make positive assumptions. I can face my and other people's shadows, I am not afraid of them, they don't make me sad or even depressed. At the same time I can experience ecstatic joy, also known as autistic joy, that comes across as childlike or weird to neurotypicals.
So yeah, I live in the black and the white and all the colours this world has to offer. It's not rigidity, it's intensity and rationality.
Unlearning the wrong way, does not automatically teach us the right way and I guess that I am not the only autistic person who had to learn that about neurodivergent relationships.
In other words, embracing your autistic self, unmasking the autism and acting like an excited toddler on coke are not the same thing.
I mentioned it in other posts before, that we didn’t have an autistic kindergarten, that we did not learn healthy autistic behavior and socializing while growing up. It’s not our fault, we don’t have to feel ashamed for it. What our parents, what the world taught us was often unhelpful, even damaging for most of us.
That creates problems in our neurodivergent relationships, we can overwhelm, destabilize each other or feel like we are still too much, even with other autistic people and that hurts.
Going back to masking, to neuronormative behavior and communication is not the solution of course, we have to gain emotional maturity in an authentic neurodivergent way.
Understanding ourselves and our needs and communicating them openly is a key factor in my experience.
Respecting other people’s boundaries and not trying to push them is another. And we have to be honest to ourselves, when it comes to that. Taking things literally, needing rules does not mean that we are incapable of nuance and that everything has to be explained in detail. Especially as an AuDHD person that can be a tricky thing, when the need for dopamine, for intensity is pushing us forward, when we are in a hyperfocus on another person.
In my experience letting relationships develop slowly, giving each other space is important, while at the same time accommodating the rejection sensitivity and need for clarity by communicating openly helps not to become dysregulated in the process. Just not responding anymore, ghosting an AuDHD person is cruel.
Our neurodivergence gives us so many skills we can use in the process of getting to know each other, connecting with each other. Pattern recognition, high empathy, honesty, analytical skills, curiosity, critical thinking skills, building routines, being structured and detail focused and so many other AuDHD strengths can help us with being our authentic, unmasked autistic selves while building healthy relationships with other neurodivergent people.
Does anyone have information on sports injuries in the context of autism?
Because of my poor body signals processing I'm constantly running into injuries. I assume it's caused by not feeling where my natural limits are. Which leads to too many reps, too much weight, too high paces, too long sessions, etc. Just not getting what the level should be I'm training at.
I could use some help tackling this maze.
As so many of us struggle with what the angry weather Gods are throwing at us. With the greed of a few threatening us all, with their empty dreams and blind visions of the future. And most of all with the greed and power-hunger of our so-called leaders and the spineless betrayal of those who should be holding them in check. It is perhaps worth remembering something.
Being born autistic, or adhd or both, means that this life has always been against us. We walk through it with incredible gifts. Such as sensory perception capable of seeing truly profound beauty, pattern recognition that lets us see the writing on the wall, long before others can even see the wall, the ability to concentrate and produce over extraordinary periods of time and character traits of truth and honour and honesty, logic and loyalty and steadfast courage. And so much more.
All gifts, I would argue, in the right circumstances, when they are not being abused by the systems we have to try and survive in, or the world created for others. Because then they can be turned into our curse and from them can be spawned other darknesses that we end up wearing like cloaks as we crawl though live, attempting merely to survive, anxiety, stress, depression, illness and despair.
This is the story of so many of our lives. Of our gifts also being our curses, of all that we have to carry that so few want to see or recognise. And do you know what that has made us? Stronger than we know. Give the average allistic even an hour walking in our shoes and they would give up, or break. Yet we endure, we have always endured. It is part of what makes us, us.
Reading about task initiation strategies and as someone who uses them (to do lists, breaking down larger tasks into smaller ones, pomodoro/time limits) feels like there are no options for someone like me who is really struggling with task initiation and executive function due to autistic burnout.
Are there any other tips out there? And DO NOT tell me to rest/do nothing because I am a sole caretaker and in a precarious financial situation. Thank you.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 1009 , Sunday 02/08/2026
Sunday & I managed to get a bit of a lie in this morning, getting up around 07:30.
Made breakfast for the two of us before doing my chores.
We went across to my late MiL’s & continued with the seemingly never ending job of clearing it out. Although to be fair one or possibly two more trips should see the job done.
I bought back ½ a dozen tool boxes to sort out during the week - I suspect most of the tools will need a new home but some of them I will keep.
We had a fest on the TV show ‘The Capture’ there is a new series out but we are starting from season one again as it’s been a while.
Huntsmans pie & a mixed salad for tea with the old strawberries & ice cream for dessert.
Final Thoughts.
I’m not feeling the whole shilling tonight, I hope I’m not coming down with a bug - I’m wondering if it’s why I have been a bit short of breath when exerting myself the last few days.
Thank you to all those who are helping me on this journey, in a myriad different ways. I am thankful to each & every one of you! 🫂 🫶🐿️🖖

now you’re angry
it’s happening again
to you
some man’s mouth is flapping
and that’s never good
You have no idea
what he’s on about
but you know what
comes next
You have no idea
I tried so hard
but I never felt seen
while you were
smiling
and I don’t feel seen
now that you’re not
You need
time to process, no
fuck you
nothing about me
without me
and I don’t take breaks
You don’t process me
I’m a person
I process
my own self
and you happened to me
again too
