Last one for #SuperbOwl Sunday. Owls (and other Arctic Predators, avian and mammal) use rises and hummocks to scan for prey, using the same spots year after year. Their waste and remains of prey fertilize the spot and the plants grow taller there than the surrounding tundra. As promised earlier today, here's a couple of shots of one of the yellow-headed amazons living in Stuttgart's Rosenstein Park. Their calls sound somewhat human/child-like, which is rather bewildering at first – until you look up and are even more bewildered at the sight of a bright green parrot.

It's herring season in the Salish Sea and the herring are spawning in the area where I live. This means there are hundreds of sea lions around and feasting. It's noisy 24/7 but it's a musical noise. #wildlifephotography

A sea lion is raising its head up as it rests on a dock that is just below the water. Its mouth is open and its head is pointing up and toward the right as it barks. The sea lion is various colours of brown, from golden to dark brown. The lower 2/3s of the photo around the sea lion is blue-grey water, the upper 1/3 is muddy shoreline.

20 sea lions are sleeping on a floating raft that is almost sunk below the waterline. The sea lions are stacked on top of each other like sardines by alternating the direction of their heads and tails.

I had an incredible encounter with this rare Fiordland crested penguin on the West Coast, a moment I’ll never forget.
These elusive penguins are one of the world’s rarest, and facing threats from habitat loss, predators, and climate change. Encounters like this remind me why protecting New Zealand’s fragile coastal ecosystems is so important to me.
