While a lot of people are now gloating how Trump is destroying the economy, it’s important to keep in mind that economic crashes can serve as a strategic tool for the oligarchs to consolidate power. They will use the resulting chaos as an opportunity to restructure society in their favor. There is a calculated logic here of using destruction as a tool for entrenching elite dominance.

NYU Law professor Noah Rosenblum posted on Bluesky yesterday that “[t]here has never been a larger gap in my (admittedly quite short) professional life between how lay folks and law profs are talking about what is happening in government right now. So much of what Trump is doing is just blatantly illegal — often in several ways at once.”
It seems obvious that Trump and Musk are running the basic play we’ve seen before from Musk and other Silicon Valley billionaires–move fast, break things (with “things” very much including the law), and then dare folks to try and do something about it.
The Democrats "gotcha! lol" approach to politics is negligent. There's no mystery here about what to do nor what needs to be done--they're simply not doing it. They prefer tweeting and fundraising to doing their jobs, it

Trump’s attacks on America’s closest friends, countries such as Canada and Denmark, are there to make enemies of countries where constitutionalism works and people are prosperous. Commentators should please stop using words such as “digital” and “progress” and “efficiency” and “vision” when describing this coup attempt. The plotting oligarchs have legacy money from an earlier era of software, which they are now seeking to leverage, using destructive political techniques, to destroy human institutions. That’s it. They are offering no future beyond acting out their midlife crises on the rest of us. It is demeaning to pretend that they represent something besides a logic of destruction.
I love this idea. The former tech oligarchs have given up whatever claim they may have had to these words by collaborating in the current coup attempt. They are ordinary wealthy, greedy, and mad aspiring tyrants now, having chosen the path of countless past tyrants whose graves merit only urine today.
The digital? That's ours again. Vision? Ours. Progress? Also ours.

Dead political party. It needs to go, being no longer fit for purpose. They're unable to read the moment and/or unable to act appropriately. Complete failure of situational awareness. That's not going to be fixed by the newly-elected DNC chair or whatever; it reflects deep dysfunction.

I'm sorry for the many #USPol posts recently. I'm just getting caught up on what's been happening.
I do my best to give people I don't agree with politically the benefit of the doubt, and remind myself of the many times I realized what seemed like an obvious political position to me was not obvious at all once you learned more about the situation. I also think our current president is using shock doctrine tactics, which means most of what he's doing is intended to frighten and demoralize as many people as possible so that he has the space to do whatever it is he actually wants to do. You don't need to stare at that and you're probably better off not ("rationing reality", as they say, because too much is harmful).
What changed my mind and led me to pay closer attention is the blatantly unconstitutional nature of what Musk in particular is doing, combined with the lack of response of almost the entire Democratic party. It's absolutely staggering. The moment demands a response, and the party's lack of response demands a response. If the building they were in caught fire and they responded this way, they'd burn to death! This is not just a difference in political positions; it's blatantly unconstitutional behavior unfolding daily with no tangible resistance.
Anyway, I don't intend to become a politics poster, largely because I don't have the temperament for it. After the initial flare-up my ire is directed at elected officials, where it belongs, and I look for things I can do outside the electoral system that might help.
