On this #TransDayOfVisiblity, I want to specifically highlight Bernie Wagenblast.
She is one of the famous announcer voices for New York City's Metropolitan Transit Authority! (See video for demonstration)
From her wikipedia page: Bernie Wagenblast is a transportation journalist, radio personality and voice-over artist. She is the founder and editor of the Transportation Communications Newsletter. She also edits The AASHTO Daily Transportation Update, published by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and hosts AASHTO's ETAP Podcast and the ITE Talks Transportation podcast for the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
Trans folks putting the 'trans' in public transit!

I'm back out again, having a Saturday morning coffee.
It's a lovely sunny day here today, which always helps boost the spirits a little.
Nice to just be enjoying life like any other woman - even if this one just happens to be trans...
Coffee first, then I need to go do some shopping...
Then home, a walk and I must do some housework! You know, just normal, everyday stuff...
But I may change out of this dress!

Major Update: The #Texas Court of Appeals today upheld a lower court ruling blocking Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (aka CPS) from invasively investigating families with #trans children https://www.aclutx.org/en/press-releases/texas-appeals-court-upholds-rulings-blocking-state-investigating-trans-youth-and via ACLU of Texas
While some of us knew from a very, very young age that we were trans, a whole lot of us... well, we didn't. We thought that the way things were for us was normal.
And then, one day, maybe all of a sudden, maybe after a long time exploring ourselves, we said the magic words: "Oh, s#!t, I think I'm not cis."
This week on #StainedGlassWoman, we've got a guide for what to do after the bottom drops out of your world, and you got your gender wrong.

let's keep fighting, and never give up!
(I know I said these redraws would be coming back on April, but I couldn't resist doing something for today!)

New on Assigned, I found out earlier today that Jonathan Haidt, the author of the splashy new pop-psych book about how smartphones are bad for kids, believes and is promoting a fringe theory that kids are becoming #trans due to social media as well.
Haidt told PBS that "clusters of girls" are developing gender dysphoria when they never had it before.
The problem, of course, is that there's no research whatsoever backing that up. #science #news

On #TransDayOfVisibility, I'll say this: I've had four friends transition over the years. All four surprised me when it happened, so stereotypes of "how #trans people act" may not be helpful. And all four seem much happier, more confident and relaxed, and more "themselves" after doing it. Beside the fact that it's none of my business, I respect their happiness.
Welcome to #TransTuesday!
This week we’re talking about a horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad concept that plagues the trans community, and you might be surprised to learn where it comes from:
TRANSMEDICALISM, and WPATH version 1.
buckle up, this is gonna be a rough ride.

Last month, I mentioned that I wrote @wikipedia articles for five of the #genderqueer and #nonbinary comedians appearing on the #Netflix special, "Hannah Gadsby’s Gender Agenda". In today’s story on @medium, I (finally) write about that special, as well as the #TransDayofVisibility (coming up this Sunday, March 31).
Here’s a friends link to bypass the paywall (click the link, not the image preview):

It was a real mystery, and required hours of reporting, but we found it.
The source of claims that a new Scottish hate crime law would jail people for misgendering a trans person turned out to be...
...the UK press. They made it up. Completely. #trans #news #journalism #mediabias
Full story here, including a transcript of a BBC Radio 4 program that proves the press shenanigains:

Today I've done something I've never done before and written in direct criticism of another trans writer.
Andrea Long Chu, in my opinion, is dangerously undermining the fight for access to transition in the guise of defending trans people's right to do it.

Roller Derby is fighting back against a Nassau County Executive who's trying to force them to ban #trans women.
Today on Assigned, this is a story about fighting anti-trans policies, sure. But it's also about the fight over what sports mean, and queer women fighting to define that for themselves, against the dominant culture. #sport #news #rollerderby

Is it possible to have dignity when your existence viewed as inherently ridiculous and undignified? If so, how do we resolve the tension between a mainstream that defines us as a punchline and the striving of every human for respect and dignity?
On the occasion of the Vatican releasing a statement sttacking the idea of transgender dignity, I've written this as a response, a rebuke, and a call for resistance in the face of strengthening oppression. #trans #transgender

Aritst: Chelsea Wolfe (she/her)
Why? Her music captures this amazing tension between delicate and powerful that holds one in the place of unresolved liminality. Not to mention, one of the few artists who has really coalesced what I want most from goth music.
Where to start?
Her latest album is brilliant.
"House of Self-Undoing" is probably one of the best songs to start with, being a great example of delicate possibility riding waves of intensity.
https://chelseawolfe.bandcamp.com/track/house-of-self-undoing
My other favorite song is probably "The Liminal," as it hits the feels of being a genderqueer and neurodivergent weirdo that lives in liminality.

Carolina #Gamecocks coach #DawnStaley was ambushed by a conservative content creator with the question "Do you think transgender women should be able to participate in women's basketball.", yet Freedom Caucus reps says she's *pushing* a left wing agenda.
Fuck you Freedom Caucus. You wouldn't know freedom if it bit you in the ass. She was asked the question at a presser and she answered. Sorry her answer wasn't to your liking. Not sorry!
And now... I'm gonna buy a Carolina Gamecocks shirt just because of her allyship.
Plus I like saying "Gamecock" too.

In the New York Times last week a pair of reactionaries argued against the term "assigned sex at birth" in an impossibly dumbed-down discussion that ignored the existence of intersex people, the reason the term exists in the first place.
On Assigned, we hold ourselves to higher standards for both scientific accuracy and thoughtfulness.
Therefore, please enjoy this opinion essay by a medical doctor arguing assigning sex is harmful and unnecessary. #trans #science #news

Can we do this? Is this something we can do? How do we start this ball rolling? Do we have a project head in place already? A gofundme? Is this going to be a rotating post or something kind of collective council?
Ben Barres was a trailblazing transgender neurobiologist who promoted equity & diversity.
His pioneering research on glial cells changed science & he became the 1st #trans person admitted into the National Academies of Science.
Barres was a strong advocate for women, early career scientists & the #LGBTQ+ community at a time when few people openly discussed gender identity. https://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewherper/2017/12/28/mourning-ben-barres-the-transgender-scientist-who-changed-neuroscience/ #history #science

We were fascinated by the work of Liv Raisner, who took a hidden camera into exploratory therapy sessions.
In an interview we asked Liv how the videos came about, what it was like in the room, and what we need to know about these dodgy practitioners. #trans #news #journalism
As a reporter, I've followed the science of gender-affirming care from before the current political moment. I have always committed to following the evidence, whether I like it or don't like it.
Today on Assigned, I've published a piece by a freelancer who did her master's on the informed consent model of gender affirming treatment. She wrote us a digest version.
The narrative is the narrative. The evidence tells another story. #trans #science #news #journalism

I've held off publishing anything on the Cass Report until today because I didn't want any of the coverage on Assigned to be based on partial or second-hand knowledge.
There will be more to come, but my first entry into reporting on this divisive, emotional, and politically charged Report just seeks to give people a basic understanding of what the heck is in the thing. #trans #transgender #news #science #journalism

One of the scariest parts of coming out is coming out at work. Unlike your family--blood or chosen--work is just a bunch of people who get thrown together, mishmash, and have to make things work out.
This week on #StainedGlassWoman, it's a guide to give to your coworkers when they get that wide-eyed look and think "Oh, s#!t, my coworker just told me they're trans." At least, it should keep people from asking what's in your goddamned pants.
