I've created a separate Mastodon account on an instance which allows Threads and it's going pretty well - I can now see Threads posts from a bunch of people I lost track of after Twitter went down and we scattered to the four winds.
The biggest impediment is that Threads users have to go into their settings and enable Fediverse sharing, so I've had to email various people to request they turn that on. Also at this stage I think the Threads users I follow can't see my replies to their posts, but that apparently will come.
I'm very keen to follow people on Threads and Bluesky (via the bridge) without ever having to sign up for those services! Hope that becomes better and easier.

I am attempting a small #fediverse experiment. Focusing on #Toronto people, institutions and groups, I am asking #Threads users to enable fediverse sharing.
As much as I’d love refugees from Xhitter come directly to Mastodon, enabling fediverse sharing seems like the next best option if they go to Threads or Bluesky.

We watch the Meta changes in factchecking, moderation policy, etc, with concern. But this is still true:
"We have all the tools we need for that [protecting our users] ...And if we find ANY server not responsive THEN we block. Protecting our users is our 1st job but we have all we need - without first strike defederation."
That said: If we see ANY abuse of our users from #Threads accounts we will not hesitate to take any actions needed.
