The top of a dried-up thistle plant bursts open like a punky firework, its head exploding in a burst of colour and energy.

The central part of the flower is a papery, spiky orb in shades of tan and light brown, from which long, sharp, needle-like petals radiate outwards. These petals blend faded greens, purples and blues, some with a metallic sheen.

The background is a beautiful, out-of-focus blur of deep greens and black, dotted with soft, circular highlights of light.

A striking black and white photograph of a beautiful and haunting 3-story mural on the side of a building. The mural centers around a large black dot that gives off the impression of being a celestial figure near the top, and all these angel or bird-like flourishes circling around floating upward and inward toward the dot. The background of the mural is deep black, but all the white swirling figures turn the background into a light color to that next to the dot the background it pure white. Big ‘eclipse’ vibes going on here. But I’ve also always thought of souls gently drifting to heaven as well. The image seems so peaceful and ethereal. The architecture surrounding the mural wall is very geometric and angular, and it helps draw the eye into the art. The glass windows on an adjacent building reflect the floating mural figures and when you look closely at the bottom of the mural you can see tiny No Parking signs to ground the image back to reality and give it a place in time.
