So the racist woman in my art group keeps saying racist shit, checking to see if anyone else will be on her side. (She clearly thinks they will).
Today she moaned that a gallery she wanted to submit her work to was ‘only accepting Black & underrepresented people this year. And it was a step too far for her. She now disliked the gallery. Why not 50%?!’
I said ‘ white people have had over 100 years to show exclusively. I think we can spare at least one year for those we excluded 100%.’
Is anyone out there interested in discussing the Pepe the Frog meme? During my time on Tw****r I came across tons of racist, white nationalist accounts that used the frog as their avatar.
Some of the users in online discussion groups I frequent use Pepe as a reaction emoji, and it always puts me on edge.
When I've tried to bring it up with moderators, the response has been, "oh, that's just a cute harmless cartoon frog." Am I overreacting, or am I being gaslit?

And on some level, many of you know what needs to be done. It just sits outside of your comfort level.
Well, you need to learn to sit with that discomfort, then pose your questions about what needs to be done to other white people. You need to challenge racism within:
* YOUR family members who
are racist (The major holidays
are coming. Time to prepare!)
* Your friends and social
groups
* Your co-workers and
colleagues
* YOURself
Asking Black people to explain the dynamics of racism and to offer solutions, unless they volunteer that information, is asking for them to "educate you" by doing FREE emotional and intellectual labor - and most of us have enough on our plate trying to survive and thrive.
