It has never been more important to show your support for the queer community.
If you are queer yourself,
it's a personal choice, and you should never feel pressured to come out publicly, especially if it isn't safe for you.
But if you're an ally,
consider how important it is to show your support by publicly wearing rainbow or otherwise supportive accessories. Use your privilege for good 
Times are hard for the community,
and hate has been on the rise in many countries. Showing your support as an ally, and showing queer people can be their true self with you, is a meaningful way to make a difference, both at the individual and societal levels.

Happy Pride Month. If you know a young person (age 13-26) in the US who is getting their access to queer library books restricted because of local small-minded policies or laws, please refer them to the Books Unbanned program where they can get digital access to banned or restricted books thanks to the cooperation of larger libraries in more open-minded locations.

Intersex pride.
Of all the letters in LGBTQI, I think Intersex people are unique in that we often get added to the rainbow by society as soon as we are born, and unlike other queer people, our families often "know" about us long before we do.
There is a conspiracy of silence to stop intersex kids from knowing about themselves. The reason "normalizing" surgery is done early in life is precisely because the event will not be remembered. In my case, my earliest memory is recovering from such surgery. It took decades to understand what that fragmentary memory was.
Unlike the other letters of LGBTQI, intersex conditions often come with significant medical concerns. Amongst other issues, I had an endocrine crisis leading to severe arthritis in my early years. But my doctors were so intent on bolstering my normalized identity, they could not acknowledge or treat the problem. Ultimately, I accidentally fixed myself by starting hormone therapy as part of gender affirming care.
The origin of this medical and social control is the 1950s era anxiety that if the child has an "abnormal" body, they will grow up gay. As bizarre as it may seem, the pathologization of intersex and the resulting nonconsensual and deceptive treatments are a form of "queer prevention" therapy.
Intersex pride is about acknowledging that bodily diversity is the real normal. Intersex pride is about demanding treatment for the real health issues and an end for nonconsensual cosmetic treatments. Intersex pride is about resisting the identity policing and secrecy that society deems "good for us".
Especially now. More than ever. This is the way.
Just a note to everyone - Pride Month is no excuse to use generative AI to make "happy PRIDE" posts, merch, or any image or text related to it.
Generative AI is funded by facists who hate LGBTQAI+ and who fund laws against us. It is the tool of the enemy we all should resist together - not generate useless slop that muddies the message with AI vomit.
Using it shows no care, no love, and no solidarity.

I have been deconstructing heteronormativity and neuronormativity for several years by now and it still baffles me how many of my problems with relationships and mental health issues were caused by not understanding my queerness and neurodivergence. Both are strongly intertwined.
The body dysphoria because I tried to fit gender norms.
Feelings of anxiety and guilt around relationships, because I am polyamorous and forced myself into monogamy.
Not understanding why I have been attracted to people, because I didn’t know that I am pansexual.
Not finding my people and being the crisis friend because I didn’t know that I am AuDHD.
The feeling of being weird and too much because I didn’t know what a hyperfocus is.
Ending up in abusive relationships, because I wasn’t educated about kinks and consent culture.
The missed opportunities, because of all that.
The more I unmask my neurodivergence and queerness in relationships and communicate my needs openly the better they become. Problems can be solved easily by communication instead of becoming a drama. It makes me truly love and accept myself and others.
While writing this text I had to think about a line in the song “Too good for giving up”:
“Reclaim your shame and dress it up in love.”
