New hybrid Porsche 911 is coming
Got the Porsche branded NACS adapter today (free!) the case is really nice! I think it's almost the same as the one I bought from Lectron.
We haven't done much road trip lately so I haven't used any Fast DC charging stations for a while. Porsche gained access to Tesla Supercharger network about a month ago.
On the way back home from North Shore I thought I’d charge up for Newport trip tomorrow. Stopped at Assembly EA station. There were a swarm of KIA EVs waiting, even though the app shows 1 charger was available…
Pulled up EVgo app and found a very high power ChargePoint station nearby… at Ford Dealer (I use that dealer for my truck 🤣) 320kw - wow! I preconditioned the battery so it was nice and toasty and ready to accept maximum charge. So I drove there. And it worked so well. Though it’s very expensive - greedy car dealers!!
The charging curve was impressive on Taycan. Started at 40% SoC, pulling in 282kw maximum. Still pulling in over 200kw at 72%. This car is a beast.
My one year ownership experience of the 2025 Taycan Cross Turismo, but also just the EV stuff.
First time charging EV in my life LOL
Taycan Cross Turismo x Tesla Supercharger in Provincetown
Started with 57% state of charge and battery temperature never reached optimal range during the 19 mins of charging 🤣 but it reached 150kw within 10 seconds. The supercharger is capable of 250kw delivery and Taycan is capable of 350kw charging. Unfortunately we didn’t reach the fastest charging speed on either of these.
57% to 85% in 19 mins. Not bad. This is enough to drive one way between Boston and Provincetown. The location could be better - it’s a bit too far out from town, I bet the nearby Harbor hotel can set up a bar to accommodate (make money from) EV owners.
At least it’s only steps away from a beautiful beach and great views of the Pilgrim Monument.

I finally put in stats for all the charging sessions for the first ~10,991 miles of Taycan CT4.
Some interesting facts:
- Efficiency: 3.02 miles / kWh
- Peak charging speed: 316 kW
- Lowest SoC before charging: 5%
- Total charging cost: $1,058 (A Porsche Panamera base v6 has 21mpg combined efficiency. For Massachusetts average premium gas price of $3.96/gallon, that would be $2072.4 on gas. That'll be higher for Panamera Sports Turismo.)
- I did take advantage of free Electrify America charging of 733 kWh. If I were not using that, I'd likely charge more at home at about $0.33/kWh.
So.. finally picked up the Taycan from the dealer today after it was there for 2 weeks to fix the instrument cluster (the giant screen in front of the steering wheel that shows all the driving information). For the past year it would intermittently black out while driving and come back the next day or after being parked for a few hours. Without any fault code.
But over two weeks ago, it produced a fault code in the car and for the next two days, it would immediately black out after driving for a few minutes.
The dealer was in shortage of technicians because their service department had a flu breakout ... Several of their techs were out for a few days. So it took them 4 or 5 days to get to my car ..... Then they tried the pending software update and pending recall (also a software update) and that didn't work. So they finally ordered a new instrument cluster which got air shipped from Germany LOL. Retail price for that is over $9000 I'm glad I still have the warranty...
This is the second time I brought the car in for this problem. The first time I brought it to Porsche Boston and they just cleared the fault code and hoped for the best. When it happened intermittently and didn't have fault code, I thought the techs at the dealer probably couldn't do anything because it was not reproducible. That dealer moved to Natick which is way too far from me now...
I asked for the service record from Porsche Boston and they gladly provided that. I was prepared to get lawyer to start lemon law process if it doesn't get fixed by end of this week. I wonder if the two dealers talked with each other... But the service advisor had been pretty nice and friendly to me... And I don't think Porsche usually air ship parts that quickly...
Needed to make a quick charging stop in Eastham because I forgot to charge to 100% before leaving for Provincetown, and the extra drag from the bike rack made the efficiency worse. Obviously the bike design is not optimized for the aerodynamic when it's sideways 😜
I could charge near Ptown long enough so I can make it home, but 1) Ptown's DC charger is a Tesla supercharger, as much as I don't want give money to Musk, it is also not 800V output, meaning the Taycan only takes around 140-150kw, which is not so much different from the 120kw I can get from this ChargePoint. 2) as I don't drive much, I need to take advantage of the Electrify America free charging when I have the opportunity.
So a quick 9 mins charge from 11% to 22% and we got on the way to the Electrify America in Hyannis. Arrived with 13% SoC and got the free juice to 85%.
