Pixelfed.social is now in Curated Onboarding mode after weeks of closed registrations.
What this means is we are carefully curating new user applications, to ensure our community safety as we've seen an influx of spam/malicious accounts.
Once we're finished with v1 of FediThreat, we will re-open registrations.

Folks Pixelfed is getting slammed.
Since Meta started blocking links to #Pixelfed it seems the world has discovered this wonderful public Instagram alternative picture sharing social media application (see Striesand effect).
But things that are public, rely on us to fund them. @dansup does not have a bunch of VC billionaires writing big checks for more server capacity.
If you can spare a few dollars to support public social media, right now is the time to do so!

It’s amazing how quickly Pixelfed has gained traction over the last few days.
Even more incredible that given the numbers signing up, @dansup has pretty much managed to keep it going (barring the odd, small, hiccups).
Thanks Dan, and @pixelfed for giving us the alternative to something else!

As far as I know, trunks should still work with pixelfed accounts.
I may look into specializing some experiences for that service. Open to ideas.

There is something incredibly freeing about being able to like a post on Pixelfed without fear of screwing up your algorithm. I find myself just liking cool photos way more frequently now.
I am so loving #pixelfed right now! It really is like what Instagram used to be. It feels great to be sharing photos again.
You can follow me at @mmccue right here on Mastodon thanks to the magic of the fediverse. I also highly recommend creating an account for yourself. It's a lot of fun and the photos there are awesome.
