I changed my profile pic ( a rare snapshot of me without a baseball cap) and a new profile banner keeping in step with many of you celebrating #October spookiness.
(and yes, that IS the Green Goblin and not Stephen Miller)

#MothOfTheDay is a stunner.

You may recognise it from my profile pic, but one came to visit the #moth box last night. The gloriously beautiful #green and black mosaic of:

MERVEILLE DU JOUR
Griposia aprilina

Larvae feed on oak.

One of my absolute favourite moths of the year.

Overhead shot of a 2.5cm moth on terracotta. It is arrowhead shaped and chunky. It is strikingly marked in bright sage green and black mosaic all over. It has black and white horizontal striped legs.

The Hidden People are HERE! The magical village of Merrickville, Ontario, will be overrun with red gnomes hiding along the Story, Woodland-Tobbogan Hill, and RiverWalk Trails! See if you can count them all and submit your guess at the Merrickville Public Library (check out https://www.facebook.com/Merrickville.Library/ for all the details!) #grickledoodle #horror #october #thehiddenpeople #halloween #hiking #trails #cartoon #funny #merrickville

This photo is an autumn scene that was taken along an accessible hiking trail in a wooded area. The trail is about six feet wide and is mostly covered with fallen leaves. It curves slightly to the left and slightly uphill around a small grouping of very mature trees. About thirty percent of the leaves are still on these trees, displaying a vibrant orangish colour amidst the branches. This photo definitely has an autumn vibe associated with it.

Rubbing a glistening circle
on the steamed-up window I framed

Edwin Morgan
Aberdeen Train

Rubbing a glistening circle
on the steamed-up window I framed
a pheasant in a field of mist.
The sun was a great red thing somewhere low,
struggling with the milky scene. In the furrows
a piece of glass winked into life,
hypnotized the silly dandy; we
hooted past him with his head cocked,
contemplating a bottle-end,
and this was the last of October,
a Chinese moment in the Mearns.

Weekly promotion, as late as this October theme... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But not too late, is it?

First hard frost. The old gods gone to ground
in drystane walls and silted
ditchworks, sleet
in squalls along the ridge,
then nothing: silence;
grey on grey on grey…
