Yesterday we took our family to our favorite #nature park in #Louisiana. It was my 3 month old nephew’s very first hike and the first place I ever found #WildClay years ago when we lived in Baton Rouge.

Turns out tomato sex is the reason we have one of life’s greatest foods: the modern potato. They’re hybrids of tomatoes and a non-tuberous potato ancestor called Solanum Etuberosum.

A pretty lizard in the process of shedding its skin visited our patio today, and my wife took some pictures.

The lizard has expanded its throat sac, which is orange-reddish with tiny white protuberances. The lizard is shedding its skin, and so it appears to be partly shrouded in a thin white linen-like material. But the material is skin. A breathtaking view of the Milky Way stretches across the night sky above James Island, La Push, Washington state and over the calm waters of the Pacific Ocean, as seen from Rialto Beach.
James Island (called A-ka-lat in the Quileute language, meaning "Top of the Rock") is a small island located right at the mouth of the Quillayute River.
In 1966, the United States Department of the Interior gave the island back to the Quileute people. It was recognized as part of their historic Quileute Indian Reservation and no people outside of the Quileute tribe are allowed on the island.

The stars sparkled brilliantly on that moonless night, set against a tranquil and serene seascape that captured the majesty of nature. Subtle lights of La Push on the horizon added a sense of depth and mystery to the scene on August 21, 2025.
