update 2025-05-09: i fucked up & deleted this toot because i thought the hashtags didn't work. 🫠 also, i haven't received any funds for this...... i've reduced the goal from $550 to $400 because that's probably more obtainable. please help me help my friend out if you're able to. even $5 will help. if you're not able to send funds, please boost this.

original: a good friend of mine - who needs to remain anonymous for their safety - is trying to escape their family's home because they's been abused by said family for most of their life & they've had enough. my friend came out as trans to their family a few years ago, which unfortunately made the abuse worse. 1 of their relatives that they currently live with has even made multiple death threats to their face in the past couple of years, but so far hasn't gone any further than that, thankfully.

i'll be collecting the funds for them & passing them along. we're not sure how much they'll need, but i know a couple nights' stay in a hotel is about $400, & they'll need money for food & safe transportation via a taxi or similar. my friend's got a place they can move in a couple of weeks. they just really need some time to safely rest & recuperate & organise their life before then.

i've also recommended that they change their phone number so their family can't easily contact them, which might have a fee attached, but we don't know at this stage. my friend told me that they's contacted family/domestic violence orgs & the police in the past, but none of them have helped. the fv org didn't even have a record of my friend contacting them when they tried again.

Got my first paycheck in just shy of a year yesterday! I can't believe we survived intact! Thank you all so much for helping us through this unbelievably difficult time. We couldn't have done it without you. You helped to feed my kids, keep us from losing our car, and keep the lights and water turned on. So now that @roari has a *part time job*, the county has decided we need less than $100 in food stamps! Even though they're making less than our rent!
I've been procrastinating asking for help, but we're already behind on rent and this is the last straw. I keep thinking we just gotta wait out my last year of school, but if we don't pay rent by next month I won't be able to sign up for my last semester of classes :/
