Tonight's movie was
Obsession (2026). I watched it with my daughter who had been pushing me to watch the movie ever since she saw it in the theaters.
This was a darkly horrific film about choices, cowardice and consent. Welcomed and surprising. there was some madly dark humor in the movie too.
This movie had me yelling at the screen directed towards the absolute loser Bear (Michael Johnston) and heartbroken for poor Nikki (Inde Navarrette).
The look of the film was very unique from the choice to use a 4:3 aspect ratio, to the obsesively warm lighting and to the way that they lit Nikki (or how they didn't light her).
The score by Rock Burwell is fantastic. Curry Baker's writing and direction is on point. And Inde Navarrette is a true movie star in this movie -- her intensity was insane. I enjoyed this movie and will probably watch it again to catch little things that I missed in this first viewing.
My one niggle about the movie is that there are many points that were predictable. But this is a minor nitpick.
Rated
8 out of 10.
