This wise old tree is filled with forest spirits which give shape to its form as it reaches from deep below the ground up to the sun and stars.

When life feels heavy, I create what I think of as a little filmstrip in my mind as I’m drifting off to sleep. I fill it with images of beautiful or comforting things, letting them take the place of the day’s hurts and tomorrow’s worries.

Here is today’s frame in the filmstrip - an evening visit after a rainfall at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

I was so relieved when the rain let up just after I checked into my motel at the end of a long drive. The air was filled with the fragrance of flowers and that fresh, earthy scent that lingers after rain. My life felt like it was in turmoil back then, but wandering through this garden in Ann Arbor brought me an unexpected calm—it truly felt like it saved my soul.

1. I made my first woven basket at a workshop held at the Michigan Folk School in Ann Arbor. The tips of my fingers are numb, but it was a very enjoyable day in the beautiful countryside. (photo attached)

2. It's the longest my dog has ever been in the house by herself. No mishaps!! Hurray!!

3. Thankfully, I had leftovers that I could eat for dinner. My fingers would have a hard time cooking from the brutality of weaving rattan.
