Been diagnosed w/ PNEUMONIA and Home Recovery + Breathing Monitoring is the doctor’s advice. I thought it's just flu + Asthma acting up. My lungs disagreed & escalated the situation.

One thing I do dislike about the official #Mastodon app is how it’s all driven towards either mastodon.social or .online
The default button signs you up on mastodon.social and when pressed ‘login’ the two instance suggestions are only those two
That makes it unnecessarily harder for people on our instance for example to easily get started on the app

A great example of why #mastodon is better than Twitter ever was: #asstodon
On Twitter, I once posted a quote from Salome and tagged it with #wilde, which was, unfortunately (but in hindsight not surprisingly) for porn. This got me a lot of very unwelcome followers.
Because of this experience, I was hesitant to look at the hashtag #asstodon because I feared the worst. But mastodon is different! Go ahead, click it! I bet you will follow it!

While working on #Fedify, I noticed something about how #Misskey handles #ActivityPub object access. When a remote server requests a followers-only post or DM with a valid HTTP Signatures (draft-cavage) from an authorized actor, Misskey still returns 404 instead of the content. It seems Misskey only checks the visibility field (public/home) without verifying the signature at all.
#Mastodon takes a different approach—when #authorized_fetch is enabled, it validates the HTTP Signatures and returns the content if the requesting actor has permission. I think it would be beneficial if Misskey could adopt a similar mechanism, since it would better respect the access control semantics that ActivityPub intends. Has anyone else run into this, or are there specific reasons Misskey handles it this way?

Till a day or two ago I accessed Masto on my phone using Feditext. It has now disappeared. (Literally. Apparently it was still in beta and the developer nuked it.)
Can any of you (i) tell me where I can find a working copy of FT (without downloading code from github and doing, ehh, something with it -- not a dev meself) or (ii) recommend a good alternative app?
And even if you can do neither, do please boost!

From what I’m seeing if you mute someone for a few hours or days on mastodon, the mute doesn’t work if you’re viewing a list. Right?

Ce petit bout d'interface est vraiment génial sur Phanpy. 
En gros, il apparaît sur tous les pouets où l'auteur ou l'autrice a répondu directement à son propre pouet, ou est la réponse à un de ses propres pouets, créant de facto un thread/fil.
Comme ça, on comprend tout de suite que soit il faut « ouvrir » le pouet pour voir la suite, soit qu'on peut comprendre le contexte avec ce qui a été publié avant.
J'aimerais vraiment voir apparaitre ça sur toutes les interfaces

Periodically, I see people upset that #Bluesky has become the default alternative to #Twitter instead of #Mastodon. So we need to understand why that happened:
Bluesky simply has a better UI/UX for Twitter users than Mastodon because it basically is Twitter whereas Mastodon is its own thing
When the Twitter migration happened in November 2022, those who managed to get a Mastodon account found that navigating Mastodon’s unwritten social norms was difficult
Mastodon already had a pre-existing community, one that clashed with mainstream Twitter – whereas there was no community on Bluesky when Twitter users migrated there
Certain marginalized groups, such as Black folk, found a hostile environment here, and many who have stayed remain here because they believe in the tech despite the community that exists around it
I cannot understate the role that social discovery had in this. On Bluesky it is easy to find people and topics that are relevant to users whereas on Mastodon this takes a lot of heavy lifting.
That said, there’s a silver lining to this. Should Bluesky fail to decentralize and the company alienates their userbase – which is inevitable – where will Bluesky users go?
Obviously, to Mastodon.
But when that happens, we need to prepare ourselves for the eventual migration and build a better environment for Bluesky users to come here.

Has anyone put together a curated list of #fediverse servers (preferably open source or at least with a public API) that:
- want to be found by the general public (I’m looking for a source of recommendations for a server picker in a client app)
- meet at least some reasonable minimum moderation/reliability standards?
I know #mastodon has joinmastodon.org/servers and pixelfed also has their own curated server list, but is there anything that isn’t software-specific?
