Adventures of a tiny white gummy bear. When you're a springtail this smol, microfungi are perfect drinking vessels, and slime mold sporangia are towering trees.

I've not been out with my camera much lately; with parenthood, work and book edits taking up all my time. But I hope to pick back up with the macrophotography very soon! New Zealand's hidden soil treasures await discovery!

Macro photograph of the interior of a meadow salsify inflorescence, at the stage where the fruits, the achenes, are still attached together and form a sphere. Each achene containing the seed is elongated, cream-colored, and topped with a pappus resembling a small basket, which will be used for seed dispersal. The photo shows the central point where all the achenes are attached, visible through the very fine hairs of the pappus, giving the image a diffuse appearance.
