It’s rarely cold enough here to experiment with frozen bubble photography. This weekend is a great opportunity at 19F. One of my shots out of many :))

My ground phlox (possibly Phlox subulata/moss phlox) has achieved blanket status.
I'm a sucker for mass blooms. A friend of mine has large swaths of this phlox & was kind enough to borrow me a cup 2 yrs ago. A cup that was 1.5' x 2' chunk that I then plopped down in a 1.5' x 2' space.
Easy peasy phlox carpet squee-sy.

Portraits of some of the recent lichens I've met. My guesses as to IDs:
* Flavoparmelia caperata
* A nice moss that looks like asparagus tips, with Xanthoria parietina & physcia adscendens (?) growing through / around it
* Parmotrema, physcia & candelariella
* Caloplaca species

Some lichen finds, plus (what I think might be) a slime mould
* Various crustose species on the back of a gravestone
* Slime mould (?) that appeared within a few minutes of wetting this old gate beam
* Patterns on lichen on an old wooden seat
* A cladonia species growing amongst moss on an old wooden fence
Edit: Consensus seems to be that it's not a slime mold, but likely a fungus. Still interesting!

Raindrops on a spider web in my garden this week. #macro #photography
In mid-October, I took my ridiculous 4mm fisheye lens out to the forest.
It's honestly not bad for photographing mushrooms – uniquely enabling you to get both the mushroom and the rest of the forest in frame at the same time. And it's always fun to experiment.

Some lichen patterns. I particularly like how #3 and its 3D, overlapping lobes turned out, but then #4 has lovely shapes and colours. I like #2's demilitarised zones between colonies. And then #1's yellow blobs on black and white is pretty cool too. I guess they're all my favourite...

Buenos días con esta foto de un milpiés (Ommatoiulus sp). En realidad los diplópodos (milpies) no pasan de las 750 patas y la mayoría tienen menos de 200... 😅

My quick notes on the downloadable interview discussion with @vnikolov and @kentpitman About Vassil's assertables classed toggleable assertion macro design.
Provokes lots of fascinating historical notes from Kent about what the ANSI CL and earlier standardisations were doing and had in mind.
