Pleasantly surprised by how smooth it was to adapt Herald from #iOS to #macOS with #SwiftUI – my first real Mac app since the AppKit + Objective-C days. I think the RSS feeds sidebar is feeling quite natural on desktop.

A brand new 68k Mac emulator quietly dropped last night!!

“Snow” can emulate the Mac 128k, 512k, Plus, SE, Classic, and II. It supports reading disks from bitstream and flux-floppy images, and offers full execution control and debugging features for the emulated CPU. Written using Rust, it doesn't do any ROM patching or system call interception, instead aiming for accurate hardware-level emulation.

I've started running my own Luanti/Voxelibre server on a Raspberry Pi. I can join the server from my laptop, but after walking around, alas, there are no other players. I'm considering making it publicly accessible, so more players can join.
**Dear @ActuallyAutistic people in North America, would you be interested in joining a casual game of #Minecraft** (but it's #Luanti/#Voxelibre; is very similar, and it's free/#OpenSource, and runs even on low-spec hardware)? Note: the server is in Canada, it's in #NorthAmerica where you'll get low-enough latency.

Just read that #MacOS #Tahoe is the last one that will support Intel-based #macs, and it only supports some 2019-2020 models.

So that means that #Apple is targeting six or maybe seven years of hardware support.

That's an e-waste empire, guys.

TIL that if you’re on a Mac and go to:

Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Saved to iCloud

… you’ll discover all sorts of things you don't use shipping this & that off to iCloud without asking you and some of them (Siri, Shortcuts) will regularly consume 100% of a core while so doing. Fortunately, easy to turn off.

Switched to strawberry from Swinsian to manage my iPod.

Overall I like swinsian’s interface better, but strawberry is a great player!

Either way I was already using my library to mpd so that doesn’t really hit my day to day.

Fellow retro fedi folk, I need your advice/recommendation; I'm selling off a bunch of things, including all-but-one of my 68k Macs. I'm keeping my LC, but will be selling off the Color Classic I have restored over the past two years. With it I'll be selling a keyboard and mouse (of course), but I'm torn between which one I should sell along with the CC, and which one I should keep for myself.

On the one hand I have an "Apple Keyboard" that originally came from the US. It's working nicely, cleaned inside and out, and is not yellowed all that much. Actual mechanical keyboard, although it does have some odd decisions like a guiding poke thingy on the enter key that basically makes it harder to hit the key depending on where you mash, but whatever.

On the other hand I have an "Apple Keyboard II" (gotta love these names, thx Apple). Also working nicely, cleaned inside and out, has Korean keys, and is the less nice or premium feeling membrane style keyboard (kind of mushy). Slightly more yellowed, but not really all that bad I think (plus, I don't really mind the yellowing).

I'm torn because I think in basically all ways the "Apple Keyboard" is the better keyboard, but I like that the II is Korean, and is technically the correct matching keyboard with the LC, at least based on what I have been able to find through photos and whatnot. If I ever leave Korea and am able to bring my old Mac stuff with me, I suppose it'll also be nice to have that be this matching Korean keyboard?

So, my question to you is; Which one would you keep for yourself, and which one would you keep? Bonus points if you can share the why's.

At @Vivaldi, we have chosen to include a lot of features not found in any other Web browser. This includes our mail client, calendar, task manager and feed reader. This is all a part of moving away from Big Tech as you can check your mail and calendar in Vivaldi and gradually move your mail service from Big Tech to one of the many mail services available, but access both from Vivaldi. This is the benefit of keeping the mail server and the mail client separate.

The feed reader is another great feature which allows you to subscribe to your favorite new sources and have them displayed in chronological order.

The calendar works with online services, but can also be used locally.
