Hi! I'm Crabbypup, or just 'crabby', though only in name.
I'm in Kitchener-Waterloo, and I'm a linux-flavoured computer toucher.
I share stuff about the region, Open source software in general and #linux in specific.
I like to tinker in my #homelab, where I run #proxmox, #ceph, and a bunch of other #selfhosted services including #homeassistant.
I'm a rather inconsistent poster, and a prolific booster, but I'm glad to be here.
I didn't do any Linux distro hopping, I'm only a recent #Mint user. I think Mint is said to work out of the box because you don't need to configure audio, sound, Bluetooth, connectivity by yourself. It will work. Hence, I think people describing Mint as too easy is just an over exaggeration. Because once you need to have relevant apps, programming and softwares, you'll start tinkering and troubleshooting. I have no expertise, but I'd assume as any other easy or hard distro out there.
I wrote a blogpost about making AMD Zen3(+)-based Lenovo IdeaPads work with Linux (they have an annoying suspend/s2idle-related bug).
It also has a section about creating ACPI fake-devices to work around "Could not resolve symbol [...], AE_NOT_FOUND" ACPI errors.

Let's talk CLI/TUI and Developer Workflows!
I’m looking to refresh my local toolkit and I’m curious: what are the absolute "must-have" CLI or TUI programs in your current rotation?
Whether it's a specialized utility for a specific language, a terminal-based interface for a common service, or a workflow-changing alias, I want to hear about it. I’m especially interested in tools that prioritize keyboard-driven navigation and accessibility.
My Current Favorites:
To get the ball rolling, here are a few tools I’ve been leaning on lately:
uv — Fast, reliable Python package and project management.
fzf & ripgrep — The classic duo for fuzzy finding and searching.
tmux — For session management and persistent terminal workspaces.
jq / yq — Essential for wrangling JSON and YAML without leaving the prompt.

I have like zero respect left for developers who use LLMs to write or maintain their software.
I don't even care for the reasons why they use this unethical piece of... technology.
Technology trained on data they don't own. Technology owned and shaped by fascists. Technology that sends its crawlers around the globe to suck every bit they can find to dump their models into big f***ing corp data centers. Data centers that are polluting the air with their big ass gas plants.
But hey! "Leave ethics aside". "That's how software development works today!".
I'm so sick of this and about everyone supporting this industry.
If you feel targeted, you are welcome. I have zero respect for you or your software garbage. I just wish you the worst.
