Herbert Putnam is appointed Librarian of Congress in the United States, where he will introduce in practice the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) scheme.

LCC is mainly used by large research and academic libraries, while most public libraries and small academic libraries use the Dewey Decimal Classification system.

The Fake Book Library

A fake book is a collection of musical lead sheets intended to help a performer quickly learn new songs. Each song in a fake book contains the melody line, basic chords, and lyrics - the minimal information needed by a musician to make an impromptu arrangement of a song, or "fake it."

Yesterday I started receiving targeted ads based on ebook borrows from my library (San Francisco Public Library). The content of those ads suggested that the targeters were aware of which books I chose to read.

周六睡了个懒觉，十一点才爬起来，随手一搜发现旁边镇的图书馆在搞两年一届的 book sale，而图书馆星期六下午一点就关门了，赶快拉上娃们上路。去到发现又是这家“不讲理”的图书馆，售卖模式竟然是书尽管拿，然后按心情捐款！最后搞了一箱三十本书，捐了二十刀。其中比较喜欢的是下面这几本：
1）浅野一二〇的虹之原 holograph
2）Hans Rosling 的 Factfulness，因为他的 TED 演讲
3）R. Crumb 画的创世论

The waitlist for “A Man Called Ove” Fredrik Backman at my local library has shrunk from about a year to about a month, so I finally requested a copy.

Isn’t it nice when libraries are able to dramatically increase their supply of popular titles?

It’s a title I’ve been hemming and hawing about for ages. We’ll see if I like it! In the meantime, maybe I should finally watch the film.

Tibet's Sakya Monastery is home to many wonders. Founded in 1073, its collection includes some of the oldest Tibetan artwork, as well as 84,000 ancient manuscripts and books.

A fire at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., destroys 35,000 books, about two–thirds of the collection. Between 1890 and 1897, a new library building (Thomas Jefferson Building), was constructed. Two additional buildings, the John Adams Building (opened in 1939) and the James Madison Memorial Building (opened in 1980), were later added.
