A finger cajon nearing completion, my latest mini-project.

The standard cajon is a fairly large box-shaped instrument originated by African slaves in Peru who were denied traditional drums & resorted to shipping crates to get rhythmic. One sits on top and slaps, taps, etc. – most have snare drum wire mounted within for added sonic brightness & texture.

Handmade from 1/4" pine, bamboo mini-skewers & wood glue.

Today was unboxing day for my book on Venantius Fortunatus! I'm incredibly happy, and frankly relieved, finally to see it in print. Cream Cheese here played my desk gargoyle through much of the writing.
