I’ve been seeing too much of demarcative politics on Fedi recently, and it’s made me feel anxious… so I’m taking refuge with blobcats! With blobcats, there is no stress, there is no struggle, there is no worry; there is only .
Let’s all unite our against
to save the

I’ve said this before, but the fact that pretty much every fedi scraper/bot/etc. developer gets immediately shot with a gun is bad, and seriously misaligns incentives.
A strange developer that announces their obvious scraper bot (that individuals and instances can block) is bleeding out, while the evil ones with secret bots sip their tea contentedly. People need to be okay with opt-out here, or we just functionally encourage the evil ones.
Posts on fedi are literally public, in any case. This isn’t a private chat-room, I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect others to treat it that way.

Opened MDN’s page on a CSS property in eww. The description starts at line 1451…
POSIX shell? Nah, I prefer GNU’s.
“Bash,” what the heck are you talking about? You mean eshell, right?

yep, that’s a grief seed in the thumbnail. sayaka miki impacted me greatly growing up. that’s why i go by oktavia and use a grief seed as a symbol! she’s very important to me.
Surprised me, Sayaka really wouldn’t be my first pick!
I always kind of disliked her… but I guess in retrospect, she did have mostly good intentions? The parable of the naïve goodie that gets too wreckless. I think I get the appeal, now.

Sending & receiving ActivityPub objects is working like a charm~! They’re all CLOS objects, of horse~!

Disabling “AI answers” in Brave Search doesn’t actually disable AI answers.
Truly disable them with these these uBlock Origin filter rules!

This makes my heart happy. So happy. Thanks, Paul Graham.
If one has enough experience to create an email account, one has enough to create an XMPP account too. For everyone else the solution is education, not SMS.
Works for other services too.

Euler’s number is often depicted as e or γ, and the Euler-Mascheroni constant is often C or γ.
Unicode has a character EULER CONSTANT ℇ.
It looks… nothing like C, e, or γ.
It’s historical baggage from our dear friends at Xerox, and… apparently noone knows which Euler’s constant they wanted ℇ to be?!

Today I happened to see a part of a #PawPatrol episode.
I knew there would be talking dogs driving hi-tech vehicles well integrated into human society, but boy, I sure was not expecting the mayor to be sporting a fashionable #blobcat sweater!
Blobcats truly are well on their way to world domination. Good.
This is actually so on-the-nose it’s incredible, a must-read.

You don’t build a castle. You dig trenches. And they flood every time it rains. The trials are never complete.
Refactor it, not because the code is messy, but your life is.
As it turns out, I still can’t exactly recommend XMPP as a communication platform. I know a lot of people here on the Fediverse like and even prefer it to other platforms like Matrix, but it just doesn’t work reliably for me. Not years ago and not now.
I just opened the XMPP client on my other device, navigated to a public room (group chat) I’m a part of, and the last three days’ worth of messages didn’t show up. Why? I don’t know.
This room’s information says it should be ‘Persistent’ and ‘Archiving’. Maybe the messages are archived, but not shared to all of the room members’ devices. Maybe the room needs an extra setting to do that. Or maybe it already does that, but only if the client and the server both support XMPP Extension number 4,872 (Self-Propagating Persistent Messages, version 2). :gutkato_ŝultrumas:
It could just be this one room. It could be that the there are better clients that would inform me about this missing feature, but this one doesn’t. But as it stands, I apparently can’t just use XMPP and trust I’ll get to see the messages people sent me. With Matrix, I can. Sure, there might be a problem with encryption, but at least I’ll know someone tried to say something. :gutkato_ĝengrimacas:
