A sunset beach scene in Nova Scotia's Minas Basin, Bay of Fundy, taken from the sea bed at the point of low tide.The sky has dark blue clouds broken by pink and pale blue patches which are reflected in the wet sand in the foreground. This wet sand has rivulets of water descending from the sandy cliffs on the shore and they wind around towards us from the right of the frame. The drier sand on either side is a warm tone. There are some trees on the top of the cliffs.

It's not an easy landscape to negotiate; there is no path, the grass grows thick, and the sides of the bank are steep.

But it's not impossible to walk -- deer pass through here, and so can I.

And I do, because I want to spend time in this quiet, remote place, far from the noise that is all too present in our "modern" world.

It was an isolated area, not far from a crowded park. Everyone wanted to see the waterfall -- which was, indeed, well worth taking time to see -- but few wandered downstream, where the landscape was also worth seeing.

But when you're willing to be one of those few, you discover what the many never do.

The beginning of the day is bright, promising, alert, as we think of the many things (I hope pleasant) we have to do.

But evening is quiet, easy, slow, a time to reflect upon what we have accomplished, and to relax into a state of rest.
