There are no ceilings overhead here other than the sky, no fences or walls that are not crafted -- by nature through time -- of rock and stone. There is sound but no noise.

There is space and beauty, room for my thoughts to wander and wonder.

If you have any experience with fences, you know that they need constant upkeep: they sag, drag, lean, break, collapse.

I'm a #landscape and #nature #photographer based out of Fort Worth, #Texas which means, aside from my local park, I do a LOT of driving for #photography, especially to #utah and the desert southwest.

Victoria isn't particularly known for #aurora, but with the sun being at its solar maximum it's a great time to keep an eye on the night sky.

Despite spending about 9 weeks in Iceland and Norway (during late autumn/winter) the past 18 months, two of the best Auroras I've ever seen have been right here where you normally never see them. Fingers crossed for some more soon!

This image is called Light in the Dark. It was taken after 'fog hunting' in #tasmania. and driving the backroads to get back to #hobart. I had noticed that the sun was piercing through plantation forest so I hopped out to see what I could find.

It took me a couple of years to release this image but it's since become a firm favorite. A gallery visitor described it as being the hope that no matter how dark life gets, that there will always be light.

There are so many images and memories in my head that I'd love to paint up and bring back to life. Well, you know, bring back in a way. I keep telling myself, just go for it. I even made a list of the scenes I'd love to revisit, even if only imperfectly, using the amazing tools of digital hand-painting from #CorelPainter or #Rebelle. This one ... well ... it's not one of the ones on the list ... but it is basically a scene I've seen a million times as I've driven down country roads here in the #MidAtlantic area. Those brief moments of magic where the sky and the sunlight and the compositions are breathtaking, but your car is traveling at 50-60 mph and the guy behind you is too close and there's no way you can pull over, hop out of the car and get the shot. Besides ... you left the camera at home again. So this one might be from my imagination but it's also representative of all those pretty trees up on those pretty hillsides, against those fabulous skyscapes. An homage to the ordinary.

Was the tree lonely, standing all by itself on the hillside, with nary a tree friend beside it?

I don't think so. There was the grass, bushes growing amongst it, the distant forest, the surrounding hills, and all the small animals that stopped to take rest in the tree's shade.

There was always someone to talk to. And then there was that view . . .

A quaint little shack sits alone and forlorn on top of Blue Knob Mountain, All Season's Resort, in Claysburg, PA.

Seen on a quiet spring day, you would think the true view here at the top of Blue Knob Mountain in Claysburg, Pennsylvania, would be just at the rim of the hill the shack is perched upon. And that is the view we normally can't wait to visit. It's breathtaking ... the rolling hills of the Laurel Highlands ripple out in front of us like waves upon the sea. But on this day .. the quiet light, the trees just beginning to leaf out, the clouds ... and most fun, the golden dandelions at our feet, beg us to take a extra moment or two to enjoy the simplicity of the wooden ski-shack itself.

It'll take a couple of seasons, but soon it will no longer be forlorn. As soon as snow flies, the skiers will return ... and it will see its share of fun again.
