Good atmosphere, which is crucial in a ghost story 👍, but I found the cryptic mindfucks more annoying than thought provoking 👎.
👍+👎 = meh.

started watching A Shop for Killers Season 2
The first season felt intriguing and original, focused on its one premise. This one... not so much. Worth a watch but lower your expectations.

I have said this before and I will say it again, this is how K-dramas were a decade ago: focus on one genre. Over the last five or so years, we have witnessed how K-dramas become chaotic, even fans cannot agree on what the story was about. One of the basic rules of writing, especially in fiction, is to focus on one story and one genre. The moment the side plots or plot devices take on an equal status to the main plot, you get lost and drag your audience down with you. 《Spooky in Love》 focused on one genre: romantic-comedy, period. The result? They were able to execute some of the best scenes in global TV history. The side plot remained a plot device and did exactly the purpose it was meant for. I fully enjoyed this. Truly deserving of a 10 out of 10 from me, YourOnly.One.
When the #Kdrama 《Pyramid Game》 was airing, I kept on explaining the mindset of the antagonist-villain class princess and the anti-hero protagonist.
This guy said the exact same things I said. 😉

I have been quiet here lately, but that is mainly because I have been spending most of my time on setting up a business in Japanese pottery with friends of mine, so no time for #kdrama here... More like living in a #jdrama haha. Because who would have thought! Sunday we have a first market to get a feel of how people like us and I am a bit nervous... Interested? Rated Made in Korea 9/10
How can you tell if a writer and director have mastered their craft? It is when they can tightly weave fiction into real history without changing the actual flow of events, leaving us wondering if those events did happen in some form or another. That is exactly what 《Made in Korea》 is, a secret history genre of fiction seamlessly inserted into the seams of South Korea's turbulent 1970s.
This is no ordinary fiction. This is not like typical historical fiction where a story is simply set against the backdrop of a particular period, such as in 《Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter》 or 《Avengers》. Instead, 《Made in Korea》 belongs to the same tradition as 《Titanic》and 《The Da Vinci Code》, fictional stories tightly woven into actual history that the audience can no longer tell where fact ends and fiction begins.
This genre is particularly captivating when executed properly. A writer must perfectly fit a fictional story into real-world events without altering the timeline. Meanwhile, the director must integrate the narrative seamlessly into existing knowledge that the audience is left wondering if the fiction is secretly based on classified, unreleased, or incomplete records that the creators simply cannot legally or openly acknowledge.
That is what 《Made in Korea》 is made of. It is a true work of art by writers Park Eungyo (박은교) and Park Joonsuk (박준석), and director Woo Minho (우민호). They have definitely mastered their craft, making 《Made in Korea》 their definitive masterpiece.
《Made in Korea》 is a masterpiece. It's rare to see this level of art in the "secret history" genre. It's on the same ranks as 《The Da Vinci Code》 and 《Titanic》.
