About 90,000 people living near larger chemical plants face an unacceptable risk of developing cancer, the EPA says.
New rules adopted last year could’ve cut that number to 3,000 residents — a drop of 97%.
But Trump has halted those efforts.

“(...) One day, while I was at work, I started a conversation with one of the customers who eventually started telling me about a degree in mathematics she was doing. I was so intrigued by the things she said that a few days later we ended up talking about ring theory over ramen.” - Aleksandra Brodowy

👻Ghost In The Machine. Despite being abandoned for nearly a decade, this old power plant control room in France was anything but silent.
A persistent, ominous humming still filled the air. A modern router blinked with green lights, sending data to unknown locations from this dead, decaying site.

The 20th-century reforestation efforts in Spain and France were driven by economic needs (timber, pulp) and soil stabilization, leading to the widespread planting of specific fast-growing species that created highly flammable monocultures.
The Eucalyptus globulus (Blue Gum) was heavily planted in Spain, particularly in Galicia (northwest), starting in the late 19th century but exploding in the 20th century under the Franco regime to supply the pulp and paper industry (e.g., the state company ENCE).
These trees contain highly flammable oils and shed bark that acts as tinder. In Galicia, which holds over 60% of Spain's eucalypt plantations, wildfires are significantly more frequent and intense. The species also consumes vast amounts of water, drying out the surrounding soil.
