I remember coming home from school and telling my mom Columbus "discovered" America. She told me it was a load of crap, and set me straight. Mom was a hippie who challenged the status quo. At the time, it embarrassed me, I'd get frustrated and just wanted her to be like the other parents.
I realized later how lucky I was, and do the same with my daughter.

Obligatory reminder that the Indigenous people your western institutions labeled as queer, such as the Muxe or Sipiniq , have not been threatening to kill themselves if they did not get access to hrt or surgeries. They exist as themselves and are happy to do so.

#SpeakingOutOfPlace welcomes #LizaBlack to discuss her new book, #HowSettlersGetAwayWithMurder: The Killing of #IndigenousWomen and #TwoSpirit People in the Americas.
"Black not only delves into the often murky and incomplete archives of the state, but also assembles a new archive of #Indigenous voices, stories, photographs, images."
